  • We helped our daughter move back to campus yesterday. She hadn't brought home her fall semester books before break so I took them yesterday. I listed 3 on half.com last night.

One book sold today for $15.72.
We bought it used for $4.65.
After fees and shipping, our profit is $7.15.

This is the 3rd or 4th time we've resold one of her books for more than we paid for it. Gotta love that.

The funniest thing is that the person who bought it is actually a student at her school. It's too bad we aren't going up there this week or else I would have refunded his shipping and just brought it to him in person.

      • Last night I got a reminder of how much I hate eBay. There was some glitch with the listing form where it wasn't giving me the payment options. Every time I went to click list I got a stupid error message "immediate payment".

I had to bring up the draft on the app and finish the listing on my phone. It took forever since I was researching what the issue was.

Anyway, I listed an item that cost me nothing and I have several of. Sold one this morning for $4.99. I haven't run out of the quantity in the listing yet, and I will be getting several more. I expect that I will have to drop the price a little as competition pops up, but the work is done. No shipping involved, just a matter of sending an email upon payment.

        • Picked up some york dumbbells at a decent price. Can use them for as long as I want and resell them for a small profit...or worst case break even.

If anyone has york dumbbells they want to sell and live near DC or PA pm me

Also sold a users personal machine they had at home...thought was broke...brought it in so we could recycle. Nice touch screen all in one desktop (HP brand.) All it needed was reimaged...only took about an 2 hours to reimage, install drivers, run updates...sold for $200.

          • I made another thread but I could've just posted it here I was able to qualify for the full value of the American Opportunity Credit $2500 by what I think is creative accounting, but hey it's in the tax code so perfectly legal, and I'll take it

            • Disney Steve asking about coins inspired me to check the value of the few that we have left. One is worth $1,700. We couldn't have paid more than a few hundred for it when we bought it. Kind of a downer because I thought PL meant +, which would have made it a $3,500 coin, but I'll deal with $1700.

On the flip side, my husband realized that a few have been graded too richly by some no-name companies and are worth several hundred less now. Even so, if we lost money, we didn't lose much due to the increase in value over the years.

Do you have a bread machine? We make pizza dough in ours and have home made pizza just about every week. It's super easy and will be really good in that cast iron pan. If you don't make your own dough, Walmart sells pre-made dough in the cases by the deli counter pretty cheap. Good find

                    • I found out that the butt-ugly 5 oz silver bar I have in a shoe box is vintage and collectible. Someone paid almost $30 per ounce for the same thing just last month! Two are for sale on ebay for $150 and $199 each. I bought it from a coin shop a few years ago and paid 1% over spot because it wasn't shiny and new. Now I'm going to hunt for ugly silver bars.

                      • There is a regular meeting from the hospital organization my partner and I belong to. They were having trouble getting people to come out to the meetings so a year ago, they introduced a financial incentive. Anyone (one person per practice) who came to all of the meetings would get a check at the end of the year. My partner said if I attended the meetings, I could keep the check.

Thursday night was the first meeting of the year and sure enough they walked around and handed out the checks for 2016 attendance. I got myself $1,000 just for attending throughout the year.

You can actually do very good buying locally and selling on eBay, I've gotten $60/oz several times and $100/oz 1 time on a 5oz bar, I can get $30/oz pretty easily

LOL. As someone who has been selling on ebay for nearly 20 years, I've made a ton of money off of those folks so no judgement here either.

So do you just pick up silver at local coin shops or pawn shops or what?
