  • yes, local coin shops, i would check ebay right in the store to see if any are "rare" and "collectable" but ive been doing it for a while now so i can tell if it will command a nice premium just by glancing at it

Very nice. It's great when you can identiy a niche like that. I've done it for 30 years with other collectibles. Finding that undervalued item and capitalizing on it is always a nice little rush.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

yes it is a bit of a rush when you get a big fish on the hook, it has actually become a hobby for me selling things on ebay

        • Sold this Cosmopolitan Las Vegas Wicked Spoon 2 for 1 buffet coupon on eBay for $23.50. I obtained it as a coupon package and newsletter from the Las Vegas Advisor subscription for $50 a year. Lots of good Las Vegas coupons.

          • I suppose this counts as a win.

2 weeks ago I ordered a $100 Amazon card with reward points from one of the survey companies I work for.
I got an email today that the code to claim the card was in my profile.
When I logged in, there was the code I just got and a code from a year ago.
I decided to try the old code and it worked. Apparently I had never redeemed it.
So I just got an extra $100 of Amazon credit that I wasn't expecting.

                • I like this thread! So cheerful!

I don't know if this counts as a win, but I was changing our plane tickets - we wanted to fly earlier - and accidentally changed them to the wrong date. SO ANNOYING! So I had to pay $104 to change them AGAIN to the date we wanted. Anyway, I sent off a nice email explaining that it was an accident and I'd love it if they could refund the charges. A few hours later I get a phone call, as a 'gesture of goodwill' they will refund me the $104! This is Monarch, a nice friendly airline

                  • My real win was buying a fixer upper house around a year & a half ago for 93k. My dad & I basically did all the work ourselves & since then prices have went up. I put around 12k into it & it's worth around 150k now.

                      • I was cleaning out my old computer stuff and came across a Voodoo 5 5500 video card I have been keeping. It's an old video card that is worthless by today's gaming standards. It's from the early 2000s. I didn't give much for it, maybe 40 or 50 bucks back in the day, because by the time I bought it it was already on it's way out for being outdated.

I posted it on ebay last week and it sold for $158!! I guess it's hit a point where it is nostalgic to some. I thought it only would have brought $10-$20. I had 40 people watching it.

I've been busy with some projects, but I should be back on more again.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.

There are a lot of people into vintage computers and maintaining old systems.

There is an old computer game called Telengard that I would LOVE to be able to still play. I've found a simulator online but it isn't the full game. I'm not going to go out and buy a whole vintage system just to play it but I could certainly see someone doing that.

                          • Wednesday night I was surfing the Internet (probably SA) when I noticed a blonde spider crawling along my lamp shade. I calmly grabbed a napkin and tried to squeeze him/her. I opened up the napkin to discovered I failed (not a win). I don't freak out when I see a spider but it does bother me when I know one is nearby but I don't know where. Freaked me out the rest of the evening.

Fast forward to tonight. Again surfing the net and sitting in the same chair. This time the little tormentor was crawling on the wall. Not wanting to make the same mistake twice, I turned to another method of disposal. The mightyful slipper! I smacked the spider with the slipper and he/she will no longer torment anyone. (Win)

You count that as a win, I'm sure the spider would beg to differ...
