  • We're on the brink; where will it go?

I looked at the DOW's closing and it looks like 6000 territory is eminent with only less than 100 points to go. Any bets on the direction we're heading. I think we'll be under 7000 next week but who know's at this point. If the president speaks again we'll surely be under 7000.

I'm a conservative libertarian who can't believe we're moving in the direction that we are but am trying to come to grips with it.

The DOW is a reflection of where the economy is was and is going. Worrying about the dow is like being worried about the score in a single basseball game in a season. The economy is what it is, my job is what it is. If the DOW continues down and hangs out there it's good for my 401k long term.

Because a the people who call themselves conservative has strayed so far far from what a libertarian is? They used to be the same.

I'm not sure you are joking or do not know what a libertarian is. In any case, a libertarian is an ultra conservative. (Ron Paul)

I probably should have left the word conservative out but when say you are a libertarian that's the ? you get everytime. What's that? I believe in as little gov't in my life as possible but believe in it for the role it should perform. I'm really not an ultra conservative in other ways at least not like Ron Paul.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I'm in the same category.

I would say that as far left as we are rapidly moving, we need a Ron Paul mentallity to move back to center.

Did you mean a fiscally conservative libertarian? That would make sense to me. As little government as possible run efficiently as possible.

Not exactly. A libertarian believes there should be as little influence/control by government as possible. Not just in financial matters but also in social/cultural matters. Typically conservatives are for strict control in matters like restricting adult consensual sexual relationships, restricting recreational drug use, imposing religious agendas, etc.

Thank you for that accurate discription. This descirbes me pretty well. The problem I have with the two major parties is the influence they have from outside special interest groups. I believe the gov't exists primarily for national security, border patrol, public security and to uphold the constitution as it is written and I mean every single amendment.

The two major parties seem to use the constitution as a convienent guide to advance their individual agendas. Outside influences dictate the direction they go in. I won't refer to myself as simply a conservative because evryone thinks of the republican party when you say conservative. The GOP has gotten to the point where they are a very slightly less fattening version of the Dems and this has been going on for a long time.

I want a gov't that doesn't pass laws to get re-elected or because of influence by outside groups with a lot of money or because popular polls say that's what to do. I want a gov't that keeps taxes low and makes people responsible for themselves and their actions. I want a gov't that keeps their sticky fingers off my wallet and their eyes out of my personal life.I want a gov't that doesn't tell me I can't allow this or that legal activity in my personally owned buisness. Sorry to get off track from my original thread, which is tongue in cheek by the way, but felt I should express this.
