Couple years later I got new and better looking runners on clearance, rolled up the old runners and stuffed them under my bed. I guess I have a hard time letting them go because my late cat loved using the rug, but maybe it's time. Because they're not "real" runners as their edges are not binded, I think I'll put them on the free section of Craigslist.
Free on craigslist sounds like a great plan.

I found three books and two items to sell. I sold one book and one of the items I listed on ebay. Nice to get rid of items and make a little cash too.

Yesterday I went through all the canvas bags in my closet. I emptied the gum wrappers and what not from them and by the time I was finished I had a nice collection of bath/shower gel, found my long lost iPod headphones, and had a little more change for my change jar.

I need to go through my dresser and hanging clothes and get rid of some of those. And shoes, I need to get rid of some. Last week I went through the kitchen and got a small collection of stuff together for freecycle. I need to list it, thanks for the kick in the rear.

I missed this thread, thanks for reviving it!

We need to declutter our garage so that we can make better use of the space. We moved from NJ to Seattle in May and our new house doesn't have a basement, only a garage. So, this has to be organized!

I plan on trying the local free cycle to get rid of some filing cabinets. After that, I have some blinds to get rid of...those will probably go to Re-Store.

I used to use a Nordic Track for exercise, but for the last 8 years I have been going to the gym at work and it had been taking up space in the attic. Since I even work out with videos now at home, I figured it was time to send this one packing. One day on Craigslist is all it took for a $40 sale. All of a sudden there is a lot more room to store things I really want .

I didn't really do anything yesterday as I was out from 7:30am until 11:00pm. I didn't even open the mail yesterday so I have a little catching up to do. I'll be home briefly after work before heading out to another meeting so I'll try to at least do yesterday's and today's mail during that time.

Cleaned the laundry room out last night. I threw away tons of old magazines and papers that were stored in there.

I hope that tomorrow evening I can tackle my chest of drawers and closet. Wish me luck.

We cleaned the carpet in our daughter's room. Upon returning items to her room, we found an art canvas to recycle, about 10 pairs of outgrown socks, a tiara she doesn't want, and an expired calendar to toss.

But there is much much more that really could go. We just wanted get the room back together before she went to bed! We will revisit her room soon.

We just did a major de-clutter last month. My new job took us from TN to FL, so we packed and moved - great time to get rid of stuff! Plus, our house sold in about a month, giving us very little time to find the right house in FL. So, we are renting. We went from 3200+ sqft down to <1400 sqft. While only temporary, it still forced us to dump a bunch of stuff. Here's what it netted:

3 trips to Goodwill with my truck
1 trip to the Library (donate a couple boxes of books)
                    1 fairly successful garage sale
and I sold over $3500 of furniture and items on Craig's List

We managed to get all our remaining things in the rented townhouse and its ajoining 1-car garage. We kept out the necessities and left a bunch of stuff in the packing boxes. I suspect when we move into a new house, we will find that there is yet more stuff that can be ditched!

Sorry to say the past week has been pretty much a lost cause in this department. I've been out multiple nights. We were away Saturday and Sunday. Virtually nothing has gotten done.

We have a new goal to straighten up. I've been part of an executive search committee for the past year and we are in the final stages of hiring our top candidate. Once we have the signed contract in hand, DW and I want to host a little get together for the committee and spouses, about 30 people. So we're starting now to focus at least on the main floor of the house to really spruce up the place.

I went through the kids' clothes and toys. I found quite a bit to purge. We take them to the local mission/consignment shop.

Recently we cleaned out all of our Christmas decorations that we never use. We have SO many that we haven't put up in years. Felt great!

                            Me Again!

I still have my mom's stuff to deal with--but I made a big bag for Purple Heart that they happily picked up in the subzero weather yesterday. More --indeed mountain more--to come.
Oh--and I sold a book today that will make it to the PO tomorrow.

I don't want to forget about this thread.

Yesterday, I cleared a bunch of notes and papers off my dresser.

Today, I finally used one of the XL ziploc bags we bought to store an extra blanket. Works great like those expensive Space Bags they sell. Put in the blanket, zip the seal almost all the way and insert the vacuum hose, suck out the air and the blanket gets very flat and slide it into the closet. Keeps it clean and takes up very little space.

I did a little file cabinet cleaning and reorganizing tonight. My one desk file drawer was packed and I really needed to free up some space. I realized that I had previous year's taxes in there dating back to 2004. While I want to keep that stuff, it doesn't need to be instantly accessible at my fingertips. I cleared some stuff out of another file cabinet that is harder to access (strange design - top "drawer" doesn't slide out. The top flips up) and moved the old tax files into there. So I got rid of unneccesary stuff and freed up space where needed.
