When traveling internationally, be sure to familiarize yourself with the exchange rate (changes daily) and understand what it means to spend 1 USD in that particular country (e.g., England vs. in another European country).

I always bring a mini-calculator with me so that when I'm shopping in a foreign country, I can convert the price back to USD and decide whether or not I want/need the item based on the conversion back to USD. In some instances, you can purchase the same item in the States for less, and in other instances, you'd pay 10 times the price in the States. It depends on the country you are visiting.

It's fun to calculate though, and if you are in a country that barters, it's fun to do that as well!

        Great Savings in London!

        Hey guys,

I went to London this past weekend and got a great deal on all the different attractions there. Normally London is really expensive and I was never able to afford this amazing city. Then a friend of mine told me about Discountbritain. It features almost all the different attractions in London and you can save up to 20% when using this system. All I had to do was to go to the website of Discountbritain and print out the different codes for all the attractions I wanted to see. That way my weekend in London got a whole lot cheaper and I could even do some shopping ;-)

This a great tip if you want to save some money and still do a lot of sightseeing. I also found out that they offer the same for Amsterdam, New York and Germany. So I might be able to use it on one of my next trips too!

Have you heard of any exciting cruise lines? I am looking for excursions from the cruise to a lot of exotic places. Can you help me out?

            I need to add:
Buy airline tickets as far in advance as possible. The cheapest flights are the ones that are bought at least two months in advance. Airline tickets for holiday travel especially, buy as soon as you can.

Great tips everyone! With the current financial crisis which resulted in worries about finances and cost-cutting measures for every household. With holidays around the corner, it is extremely important that we try to be more economical when enjoying our vacation or holiday.

                great info..
for me, it is better if you rent a place that has a kitchen so that you can cook your own food. Eating at restaurants or fast food is quite expensive. And consider renting a car instead of using the airport shuttle.

Homework, homework, homework. We've all got computers, so resourceful people who take the time to delve into where they're going will always be ahead, whether they're traveling just a few hours away or across the ocean.

Also, priceline.com. If you read a great deal and know how to use the system, you can be richly rewarded.

Plan your travel several months ahead, you can find a lot of good deals if you book a flight months ahead. The same goes for your hotel reservation, if you are going on a group vacation, consider renting a vacation home instead of hotel rooms. You can simply divide the expenses among yourselves and you will end up saving.

                          10 Saving Tips For Travel

1.) Create a Budget: First and foremost, create a spreadsheet in Excel or another program and start tracking every single time you make a purchase or payment. Do this for about a month or two to get an idea of where your money gets spent. This is a huge eye opener for some people and from here you can consciously decide how you need to change your spending habits.

2.) Selling Items: Go through your closet, garage, and boxes to find items you are no longer using. Then you can either have a garage sale or sell them online at Amazon, Ebay or Craigslist. Selling your unwanted things can boost your savings dramatically.

3.) Stop Buying: It sounds simple, but it takes a great deal of restraint especially if you are accustomed to buying the newest gadgets or clothes. The next time you want to buy something ask yourself if you really need it. Most likely the answer is no. When you do need to buy items try to buy them used and when something breaks try fixing it first.

4.) Limit Entertainment: Invite friends over instead of going out, go to places on days they are offering free admission, and look for other free things to do for entertainment. There are definitely plenty of things to do that don’t cost a thing.

5.) Get the Best Interest Rate: Do some research to find a good interest bearing savings account. Also, you should never have to pay monthly fees to have an account since many banks offer free checking and savings.

6.) Automatic Transfer to Savings: Once you figure out your budget and the realistic amount that you are able to save, have your bank automatically transfer that amount to your savings every month or every two weeks and do not touch it.

7.) Save on Utilities: If you have cable, get rid of it. This can be beneficial in a couple of ways. You won’t be subjected to guilt-inducing ads and you won’t have to pay the outrageous cable bill. One thing I cannot live without is internet and there are plenty of sites to watch movies and television shows online if you have the urge. The library is also a great resource for renting DVDs for free. Obviously we are not going to cut out electricity, but here are a few ways to lower your bill. Dry your clothes outside in the summer, turn off all lights when you are not using them, do not use the heat dry cycle on your dishwasher or just wash dishes by hand, and install CFL light bulbs.

8.) Write a list when you go shopping and stick to it! Start eating healthier, unprocessed foods. They are cheaper and you will notice a benefit in your health too! Plan your meals around your grocery store’s sales. When you make meals, make enough for leftovers to bring to work for lunches.

9.) Gifts: Give a gift of service or a home made gift instead of buying an item.

10.) Subscriptions & Memberships: Get rid of subscriptions to magazines and any memberships you can do without. Go for a run, walk, surf, or ride a bike instead of going to the gym. It’s much more fun too!

You things like where to find the best hotel deals or give advice like "find restaurants where kids eat free." Those are great tips, but they keep you firmly rooted in expensive travel industry products and services.
