Pay Day

October 16th, 2019 at 02:06 PM by CB in the City

It's pay day! Now that I have more money, it is not as dramatic as it used to be. I paid my mortgage and my credit card bills. Nothing else is outstanding. Looks like I have $675 left over if I don't pull anything extra out of checking. I'll leave it there, as I like a cushion in checking.

My grandson passed on the haircut yesterday since his favorite stylist wasn't working. I took both boys to the library and helped GS2 find books on drought. We found some books about...

great progress vs mental sanity

October 16th, 2019 at 01:04 PM by Smallsteps

Well another week I made deposits to all accounts and paid extra on mortgage.... I should be thrilled but I HATE being bored all day at work.

I am less and less impressed with the people I work with as they all do so little it is amazing. I am really leaning towards giving notice. everyone in person tells me to just suck it up since they pay very well..... but it is eating at my soul to sit doing nothing and taking a check for it.

I feel bad because they would...

$ Update

October 16th, 2019 at 12:53 AM by GratefulSaver

Both of us got paid today. I had everything written down as to how the money was going to be disbursed. Fortunately, my husband earned a nice paycheck with all the extra hours he worked. I immediately set up an electronic contribution to my Roth IRA. We were also able to add a decent amount to our savings account. I feel so grateful and blessed that we are able to save money even when we are living with a limited income. Prior to this season of our lives, saving money was automatic...

Spendy day and canning again

October 15th, 2019 at 08:23 PM by DK62565

Today was an expensive day. We replaced the tires on my car. Ouch. But, they needed it. The car is paid for and a couple of months ago we had some big bills, and now the tires, but far better than a pricey car payment every month. I had hoped to wait a couple more months, but the forecasters are thinking we might have a bad winter so I decided to spend the money anyway just to be safe. Plus, DH is going to have cataract surgery in the next few weeks and in between the surgery and...

Dryer Part II

October 15th, 2019 at 05:59 PM by Amber

So the dryer wasn’t fixed after all. I think there is a shortage. So I unplugged 🔌 it. SO has a truck so he’ll pick up the dryer my uncle is giving to me. I’m so thankful that I do not have to buy a dryer.

I’d already cut back on the dryer usage but still wanted on.

Other than a few miscellaneous items, I’m all packed and ready to. I’m not checking a bag, so things should go smoothly. I have to pick my boss up so later, I’ll vacuum my car.

Now the electric...

Oil Change & Flu Shot

October 15th, 2019 at 01:25 PM by CB in the City

I got my oil change yesterday ($64) and I also picked up a $10 prescription. While I was at Walgreens I got my flu shot. My arm is sore today, but not too bad. I get the high-dose shot; I don't know if that makes a difference in how you feel afterwards.

Anyway, I feel good that I will be protected against flu this winter (hopefully).

Variables are at 75%, but I think I have most things done now.

Since yesterday was Columbus Day, my son was off work, so he called me...

Effective Communication: A Key to Success

October 15th, 2019 at 07:33 AM by Tom Bailey

Communication is a widely used tool that people do not imagine their lives without. Modern communication is a lot more complex than it was centuries ago. We communicate through speech, pictures, body expression, tone of voice and writings. The avenue through which we communicate is not the issue of today; though it is the effectiveness of our communication. We can see how effectively we communicate by the response from whom we are communicating to. We all communicate, but are we...

Dryer

October 15th, 2019 at 02:09 AM by Amber

I think we fixed the dryer. SO came over and helped me remove the hose thingy from the dryer. We caught the devil but got it. I was surprised to see there was no blockage, we did however recover a tea light candle.

We turned it on a few times and it started to get hot. We will monitor it.

I was at my mom’s prior to heading home and my uncle was there, I’d mentioned the dryer and guess what he has one. Praise God, I won’t have to buy one. I’m so thankful.

Other...

Staying Put

October 14th, 2019 at 12:32 PM by CB in the City

Florida DS let me know that I am not needed this week, so that's both a relief and a disappointment. Mostly a relief, since it would have been so expensive and I'm not sure I'm physically up to a whirlwind visit right now. He said he wants me to come when they are in their new place; he is very confident that one of these interviews will bear fruit. He is especially hopeful for the one today in Mississippi. He pointed out that it would only be an 11-hour drive for me, a big...

why did this start again?

October 14th, 2019 at 12:03 PM by Smallsteps

I went across the state to see some family.
Lately i have noticed what i would consider places reverting back to practices i thought were gone.

when many places Started to take credit they set out minimum purchase or sometimes a fee to take credit and i had HEARD that some places have a block dollar hold until the transaction is complete like if you bought gas it may put a pending $100 until your purchase clears.

All of those things kind of disappeared for awhile (years)...

Time for a new dishwasher

October 14th, 2019 at 12:45 AM by Steve

Another chapter in "The Joys of Home Ownership". My wife informed me that the dishwasher has been making an awful noise lately and the other day was the worst it's been. We could: a) call out a repair person or b) buy a new one. Yes, I realize there is choice c) try to troubleshoot it ourselves to see if we can fix it. However, I'm opting for choice b.

We got our first dishwasher in 1995. We remember because we bought it when DW was pregnant and started having trouble reaching...

Dryer is Out

October 13th, 2019 at 10:49 PM by Amber

So my dryer is not drying 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️. I have the cash to buy another but I’m waiting. I’m going to unscrew the vents and see if there is any blockage. When I Googled the issue that was what came up in the search. I pray this thing is not out and that a simple vacuum will help. I really don’t want to spend any cash.

If I have to buy another one I’ll be looking for an energy efficient one. My dad use to go to this used appliance place, I’ll check them out...

Frost, Shopping, and the Weatherman

October 13th, 2019 at 06:21 PM by DK62565

We have a new weatherman for our local station and I think he believes he is entertaining. I do not need to be entertained when watching the weather...I want the forecast basically, but he likes to think he's clever. Well, Mr. Clever kept saying we were not going to have a frost Friday night. DH happened to go outside Friday evening and came in and said he believed it would frost. So, here we are out with a flash light so he can pick bell peppers and Rosemary in case it did frost....

The Heat is On!

October 13th, 2019 at 02:50 PM by CB in the City

I sent a message to the property manager site yesterday evening. I don't know if this was a response to that, but the heat came on a few hours later. Oh, it feels so good!

I talked to my Florida son last night. He has three interviews next week -- one in Mississippi, one in Seattle, and one in Blacksburg, Virginia. The employers are paying for travel and expenses. Things are looking good, or at least hopeful.

Yesterday, when I was still so cold, I used the oven to make...

Flu Shot, Laundry and Other Stuff

October 13th, 2019 at 04:03 AM by Amber

Went to my local grocer and got my $10 gift card for getting the flu shot. My arm is sore, it usually is when ever I get the shot, hopefully it won’t last long.

Wednesday I’m traveling to Atlanta for work, during this time I plan on speaking with my boss, the CEO, regarding training me to take her place. She’s extremely dissatisfied with the individual she has had in mind. She’s mentioned several times that she thought I could run the place. Even if I’m not tapped,...

Many Things

October 13th, 2019 at 02:19 AM by My English Castle

Lots of bits and pieces today: DD worked on a school project called Generosity Feeds both last night and today assembling soup kits for school counselors to distribute as needed. And I did laundry, pickup, grading and more and more of that. It was very cold here too, and while I toyed with the idea of holding off on the heat, I thought, the heck with it. It was 35 this morning. Too cold to mess around.

Yesterday afternoon I brought in my potted herbs and cut some chives....

GC/Outing and more

October 13th, 2019 at 02:01 AM by GratefulSaver

I took advantage of the Bath and Body Works sale on hand soaps because I had a $25 gift card. I spent 26 cents out of pocket for six hand soaps including shipping and tax. I usually make my own foam hand soap but I love the nice smell of the ones from B&BW. I certainly would not spend $6.95 for a bottle at regular price

Dinner and show (Little Shop of Horrors) were great. This little theater has been in our community for 88 years. I am thinking on making a donation at Christmas...
