College Next Year? FAFSA Time!

October 19th, 2019 at 02:46 PM by Creditcardfree

As of October 1, anyone who will be attending college or higher education next year (Fall 2020) can fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Schools often have deadlines for you to complete these in order to be eligible for some type of aid.

I always dread it for some reason. Up until this year we took out zero student loans. Technically, our daughter took it out. It is a bit of a mute point if you don't even intend to use them, but we did find out with...

OTC Order, Etc.

October 19th, 2019 at 02:31 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday I received my fall order from OTC-Essentials. For free I got: bladder pads, aloe wipes, a digital thermometer, cotton balls, Loratadine, Dairy Aid, and stool softeners. This program saves me a lot of money.

I also paid my mortgage, putting an extra $50 on it. It was money that was sitting in my credit union savings account -- I thought it would be better to put it on the mortgage. I am shooting to get my mortgage balance below $60K.

I did find a live phone number...

Shopping in my closet

October 19th, 2019 at 02:08 PM by Wink

I took a day off work yesterday and spent some time switching out my summer and fall/winter clothes. I have a pretty nice size walk-in master closet so everything is in there, I just needed to bring the fall/winter clothes to the front.

Several months ago I adopted a healthier lifestyle. I needed to lose some weight and wanted to just improve my overall health. I didn't follow any kind of a strict diet. I concentrated on cutting out processed foods mostly. I also committed...

Things To Do Today

October 19th, 2019 at 01:04 PM by Amber

Today is going to be a little busy.
I have to review my spending, budget and update my cash envelopes.

Later I meet a few friends for a late lunch.

I also need to put a few loads 🧺 into the washer.

The item I sold on Poshmark, received 5 stars ⭐️ so I earned $4.05.

Lastly, AT&T finally sent me an email that they received their cable boxes. My account has yet to be credited. So I contacted them, apparently, the items were received and I’ll get a credit...

Hello, Murphy, My Old Friend...

October 19th, 2019 at 03:59 AM by Lucky Robin

...you've come to walk with me again. The dishwasher is busted again. Mom has had it repaired half a dozen times, but the thing is garbage. I've been trying to get her to let us buy a new one for ages. She wrecked it when she decided to wash freshly dug up potatoes in it because she read it in a magazine. Well, it tanked the machine and we have had nothing but trouble ever since. Not that she would ever admit that's what did it, but it started right after that.

Well, I...

Change in asset allocation

October 19th, 2019 at 01:37 AM by Steve

I updated our portfolio spreadsheet and our asset allocation has drifted some from 12/31/18. I'm not surprised by that as I know we've been accumulating more cash. And of course market performance affects the numbers too.

12/31/18
69% stock
23.4% bond
7.6% cash

10/16/19
61.16% stock
26.67% bond
12.17% cash

I don't really have anything particular to say about these numbers. I'm fine with where they are. I do want to keep track as I don't really want the stock allocation...

Wheel Tax

October 19th, 2019 at 12:14 AM by CB in the City

Well, phooey, I just deleted my entry while trying to copy it!

So here's the shorter version. I tried to pay my wheel tax (resident vehicle tax) this morning, but even though I got verified that I was eligible for the senior discount, the system wasn't showing it yet. So I have to go back.

The process took so long that I was starving for lunch, and I made a rash decision to go through the McDonalds window. Spent $9, and now I wish I hadn't.

I'm doing some free research...

Getting Ready to Go Grocery Shopping

October 18th, 2019 at 05:09 PM by Lucky Robin

I am working out my meal planning and my shopping list for the next two weeks. It's payday so it is shopping day. The sales are really crap this week, but I've got a lot of meat in the last two weeks that were on terrific sales. So I think my focus is going to be on getting some codfish, breakfast meats, fruits and vegetables. We want to go out to the u-pick apple place and pick up some apples on Saturday.

We really like the Hempler's breakfast sausage so I am going to stock...

My First Update in Awhile

October 18th, 2019 at 04:48 PM by crazyliblady

This is my first update in awhile and I think that was way before the hacking incident.

Today is my payday. Woo-Hoo! The other thing I am celebrating is that my raise has finally kicked in and I have back pay in that paycheck from July to now. Yay! So, for this payday, I have stepped up the debt payoff and savings deposits. I am also planning on buying a couple of things I have been needing for awhile.

That's all for now. Now to make my shopping list.

Electric Bill Down!

October 18th, 2019 at 01:03 PM by Amber

I can’t believe it, my electric bill was $90.69, that’s a decrease of $59.10, or 61% decrease from my previous bill.

How did I do it? Unplugged the dryer, lights, washing machine, toaster, and Keurig when not in use. Turned the AC off when I left the house for hours, and line dried most of my clothes.

I’m just so excited about this.

Today was pay day, I paid the mortgage, the electric bill ⚡️ , added an extra $25 to the EF, took care of my tithes

I’m...

5th Wheel Loan Payment #6

October 18th, 2019 at 12:54 PM by Petunia 100

or #1 since the refinance.

This month I managed to scrape an additional $224.01 to principal. This brings my remaining payments to 142, or 11 years and 10 months, with one of those being less than a full payment.

If amortization tables interest you, you may notice that I have Frankensteined the old and new loan amortization together. (Amortization table available for viewing under "My Pages"). It just made sense to me to do it that way.

I did receive a refund of $480.88...

Spending

October 17th, 2019 at 07:50 PM by CB in the City

I went to the gym this morning and stopped at Aldi on the way home, spending $39 on groceries. Home Depot was nearby, so I stopped in there also, buying light bulbs for $4.

Yesterday I sent $20 to my Florida son.

Variables are at 79%. Two more weeks to go.

I got a letter from the city about renewing my wheel tax. I'm entitled to a 50% discount as an income-eligible senior, but they are saying I must bring in a benefit card, which no one has ever given me, and when I...

Same. A Few Snowflakes and A Large Bill.

October 17th, 2019 at 02:31 PM by Creditcardfree

I also haven't felt as compelled to write here, although I don't think it is directly related to the recent hack. I'm starting to focus on other areas rather than financial as the year comes to a close.

I have had a couple small eBay sales, with the one yesterday resulting in me under charging for shipping. I must not have weighed correctly or at all. I still made a couple dollars, but it was a bit disappointing as I had accepted a lower offer. All is good though, less things...

I Haven't Felt Like Posting

October 17th, 2019 at 07:06 AM by Lucky Robin

I think I'm still kind of reeling from having lost so much of my blog and I know everyone else feels that, too. I've had a bit of a what's the point attitude, because I have no clue if they are actually going to start backing things up or if this can happen all over again. It's not like they communicate things to us. I always have to go asking and quite frankly I'm tired of it and still kind of angry. I think I'm just going to have to force myself through it and try to blog...

Bought a dishwasher

October 16th, 2019 at 09:13 PM by Steve

We headed over to Lowe's today. We've bought several other appliances there. They seem to have a good combination of reasonable prices, nice selection, and helpful staff that isn't overly pushy. Today was no exception. A couple of people asked if we needed help while we were browsing and walked away when we said not yet. Once we had it narrowed down to 2 models, we went over and asked the one woman for help. She was very nice and answered a few questions we had.

Of course, we...
