Car Update & Cleaning the Fish Tank

October 22nd, 2019 at 01:33 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday I got a ride to the towing company, and when I walked in, I had to pay $255, which seems outrageous to me, but insurance has said that I will be reimbursed. Then I asked them to tow my car to the repair shop. I don't know if I'll get charged again! I've been watching my Visa account to see if a second charge pops up. Anyway, the car is there, waiting for an Allstate agent to come and inspect it.

I had my DIL take me to the repair shop so I could get things signed...

Smallsteps

careful for what you wish for

October 22nd, 2019 at 12:37 PM by Smallsteps

So yesterday i was drafting a email to temp agency to let them know this job is insufferable.
I also met with manager at job and told him how frustrated i am that there is so little to do. He seemed shocked he thought what I was doing took more time he did not have any answer but wants to schedule more meetings..I gave him suggestions of how I might help but he was more interested in creating an agenda for our next meeting and turning my suggestions into a official sounding...

DD's Liver Tumor and My Jury Summons

October 22nd, 2019 at 03:36 AM by Lucky Robin

I got a call from the gastro doc's office today. DD had her second MRI with a different contrast last Wednesday. The results came in on Friday. Well, they called me today and said they wanted her to see the doctor. She usually just sees the P.A. But they wanted her to see the actual doctor and they wanted her to see him tomorrow.

I am trying to not freak out. It is seriously hard to even get an appointment with just the PA, like six weeks out usually, so I was surprised...

Meal Planning for the Week

October 22nd, 2019 at 03:20 AM by Lucky Robin

I am back on the meal planning band wagon after being sick. We ate out too much again while I wasn't feeling up to things because of my cold. Part of my problem is when I am sick, if I haven't planned what to make, I am too tired to figure stuff out. If I have a plan, I can at least not have that task to deal with. It seems like such a small thing, but mentally it is huge when you don't feel well.

Day One:
Carne Asada soft tacos
Pico de gallo
Salad

Day Two:
Baked...

Another Power Outage

October 22nd, 2019 at 02:16 AM by Petunia 100

We were informed today that PG&E will be turning off our power this Wednesday at 2 pm. The plan is to turn it back on Thursday at noon. However, turning it back on is a process which takes 24-48 hours.

So it looks like I will have some more non-working paid hours this week.

I don't mind being paid for hanging out with SB and Bella at home, but it is a frustrating interruption to keeping up with my work.

There are 15 counties affected by this planned power outage.

Budget...

Budget Review

October 21st, 2019 at 11:56 PM by Amber

I like reviewing my budget before the month ends to see where I am and so far so good. Areas in that I’m over, I actually no why 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️

Categories in that I’m over are as follows
* Charitable donations - didn’t plan for the Boy Scout Fundraiser
* Gifts - only planned for my nephew and direct report’s birthday, totally forgot I buy the kids Halloween 🎃 costumes every year.
* Personal hair care - forgot to include my once a month haircut and color....

Pinterest is Dangerous!

October 21st, 2019 at 07:59 PM by DK62565

This morning I was just nosing around Pinterest. I am having to take a break from knitting and crocheting. I was crocheting last night and my fingers started to hurt and then later my shoulder was sore which is my body's way of telling me I've overdone it. Usually if I take it easy for a day or so and don't knit or crochet, I'm OK.

Anyway, I was looking at Pinterest because I had already read all the current blogs and saw a small recipe for Lavender Jelly. We just happen to...

Visit

October 21st, 2019 at 07:24 PM by Treeluva

On Wednesday my Brother in Law, his wife, and another couple we are friends with are coming into town to visit.

Well, specifically, they are coming into town for a wedding, and we are being used as a free place to stay (in 9 years we have lived here, none of them have come to visit).

I feel a certain kind of way about this and told my husband that while I am happy to see them, we are NOT spending hundreds of dollars on entertaining "guests". Food being the primary source...

Raise & Maternity Leave

October 21st, 2019 at 02:19 PM by klarose

Now for some good news! I got a $3 an hour raise at my main job! (Effective 2020)

They did cut my vacation from 60 hours to 40 hours a year but with the raise it isn't much of a loss. Honestly I never took that much vacation anyway and always just cashed it in.

Not only that but they are going to give me 6 weeks of paid maternity leave as well! That will take a lot of the strain off because we won't have to save for my time off work. I secretly think it is because they...

New Loans

October 21st, 2019 at 02:03 PM by klarose

I finally have the total for the two new 0% interest loans I had to open.

$4,562.50 & $2,109.65

I need to make payments of $438 a month in order to pay them off before the 0% interest periods are up.

I also have to continue paying $376 a month on the CC to pay it before the promo period expires.

That is a total of $814 and my average paid on the CC this year has been $800 a month. So if I can keep going at the same rate I should be fine. But unfortunately I am working...

Update

October 21st, 2019 at 01:42 PM by CB in the City

I have a few minutes while I wait for DIL to pick me up. She is going to take me to the towing company, where I have to sign a release and arrange to have my car towed to a repair shop. From there, I hope to hitch a ride with the tow truck and get someone from Allstate to come and look at the car.

I called Allstate yesterday and opened a claim. Insurance from the other driver will cover, including the $500 deductible, if repair is the best route to go. They will reimburse...

Electric Bill Round 3

October 21st, 2019 at 12:05 PM by Amber

I get a natural high checking my energy bill. Lol. My next bill is projected to be about $52. Wow 😮 is all I could say. If I can get that bill down to $52 that would be awesome!

Yesterday I did not have one soda, I also only bought what was on my list, while grocery shopping; in addition , I stuck to plans to not donate money an event I had attended. I always feel guilty but I didn’t budget for something like this, so it was a no for me.

Checked my Murphy points and...

Grocery Spending Tracking

October 21st, 2019 at 01:39 AM by Lucky Robin

Yesterday I went grocery shopping. We ended up going to 7 different stores, because the stores were out of things that I wanted to buy. It was super annoying. Although I ended up with 7,356 steps yesterday, which is three miles. Usually I do about 3000 steps, which is my goal until I get stronger. So it was a lot of steps and I woke up having lost 2.1 pounds. Apparently I burned 3800 calories yesterday. I guess when you are lapping big stores and going up and down a lot...

More Shopping Today

October 20th, 2019 at 11:30 PM by crazyliblady

I did some more shopping today for much needed items.

Furnace Filters. I buy our furnace filters online because we have an odd size of 16 x 25 x 2. Hardware stores in my area do not carry this size. The ones I buy are better filters and cheaper by the filter than buying at a store. I bought 4 filters for $47.00.

Supplements. I bought some more supplements online for $47.00.

I will get rebates on all of these because I ordered by going through mrrebates. I also had coupons...

Some Good Money News

October 20th, 2019 at 07:05 PM by Creditcardfree

Almost done with the FAFSA, just waiting on my daughter to give me some information so I can complete it. I know she's busy with a visit from her sister and my parents today, so later today or tomorrow we should be done! And it wasn't quite as bad as I remembered. It helps to import the information from the IRS.

I redeemed over $70 in American Express rewards towards our Big Savings Goal.

And the best news is that YNAB did offer us an extended trial period of four months...

Murphy!

October 20th, 2019 at 02:01 PM by CB in the City

I got a call at 3 am this morning. I didn't recognize the number, so didn't answer, but then it started ringing again. I answered this time, and it was the police.

It turned out that an impaired driver smashed into two cars that were parked on the street. One of them was mine. The trunk is completely smashed in. The car has been towed away. I will try calling insurance today, but I don't think I will actually reach anyone until Monday.

I have a bad feeling about this....

Retirement Update

October 19th, 2019 at 08:26 PM by Lucky Robin

Retirement is now sitting at $22,151.40. I can't tell you exactly how much it rose since the last update because all those were wiped out in the great SA Failure to Back Things Up incident, but I know it is up about $2000 since mid-September. I'm happy with how well it is doing.

Shopping Today

October 19th, 2019 at 07:57 PM by crazyliblady

So, my pay raise finally kicked in yesterday and I had a couple of things I have been needing to buy.

One of them is an entertainment center that is open on the back, making it easy to get to cords, etc. Our old unit is an old kitchen cabinet that someone gave to us about 15 years ago! So, one has been ordered and will be here in a week or so.

The second thing I bought was a Serta perfect sleeper memory foam mattress topper. These things are so good that putting one on...

Numbers Looking Pretty Good

October 19th, 2019 at 04:49 PM by Amber

Balanced my cash envelopes, and I did pretty good. I came in under budget for the most part

Category Budgeted Left
Groceries $80 $30
Auto $80 $50
Personal $130 $0
Fun $30 $30
Household $30 $27

As previously reported in another post, things are looking great. The electric bill was reduced by almost $60, the water bill came in at $45.68, this is the same...
