Purchasing and New Medical for 2020

October 28th, 2019 at 02:00 AM by Lucky Robin

I ordered a couple things off Amazon last night. I bought a 4 pack of 100 ct dye free Ibuprofen. I can, on occasion, find one bottle at Walgreens. We all would prefer to have our own bottles, but that has not been the case. I don't know why they never have it in stock or keep so little in stock, but it is getting frustrating. We have four Walgreens in town. One would think they would have more than one bottle between the four of them. They all carry it.

Then I bought...

My Daughter and Son-in-Law Buying First Home

October 27th, 2019 at 10:58 PM by Petunia 100

I have known for awhile that my daughter and son-in-law have been looking at different homes and considering both traditional and alternative homes. When my daughter was here a month ago, she shared that they were no longer looking in Colorado as prices have gotten so high, but were instead looking in southern Illinois.

Today I learned...they found a place and are transacting business tomorrow. It is a modest single wide mobile home on a small piece of land (half an acre), and...

Roof job. Also, cats.

October 27th, 2019 at 09:08 PM by Dido

I live in a house with a flat roof. The realtor suggested when I moved in that I should have the roof silver-coated every few years to protect it plus make it more energy-efficient. I have been faithful about having it done every 3-4 years. The warranty on the roof itself expired about 5 years ago now, but I have read that you can pretty much double the time on the warranty by taking good care of the roof, so I have.

The last time I had the roof coated was in 2015. Costs...

Sunday Updates

October 27th, 2019 at 07:27 PM by Amber

I see that Vanguard is hosting a webinar that will discuss the difference between EFTs and mutual funds. Someone from a Facebook group posted, so I’m registered. I want to learn as much as I can about these two options.

I can’t believe that the year is almost up. I’ve started searching for a new planner for 2020. Planners are so expensive these days, but the right one definitely keeps me focused, productive and helps me to remember things. I use a planner for work...

Side money/Autumn

October 27th, 2019 at 06:08 PM by GratefulSaver

I made $85 this weekend selling my pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. I'll use the money to pay for utilities in our second home. I'm hoping to receive more orders in the coming weekends.

Autumn is in full motion in my neck of the woods, although it is rainy and dark. Nonetheless, beautiful. I'm taking a short trip the first week of November and I'm really looking forward to it.

What's your favorite season of the year? What's the least favorite season. For me, Autumn is my favorite...

I Keep Losing It

October 27th, 2019 at 04:56 PM by CB in the City

Well, I lost this entry twice due to being distracted!

Maybe it means there is not much to tell....

I spoke to XH yesterday and he said that FDS will definitely take the Amazon job when the offer is made. I looked up the area he will be moving to, and not only is it far away, but hard to get to! Not close to a major airport. And it's a three-day drive. Well, I will figure out some way to visit. BFF has a brother in Portland -- we may road trip together.

Disappointed...

Smallsteps

stumbled this week

October 27th, 2019 at 04:18 PM by Smallsteps

So as i was planning to give notice i stopped my aggressive payoff retirement plan. Then when given a 5K estimate for a home upgrade made me stop and grin and bear this insufferable job at least til end of year.

So since i have the cash for home item, I started back on paying items and forgot I had sent a check for property tax as well. It is not a huge item as i have the money in account but it will put me UNDER my comfort level for that account. it will take two weeks to...

Sent extra 6K to Ally

October 27th, 2019 at 02:01 AM by Steve

My base plan is to send at least $1,500 to Ally and $1,500 to Vanguard every month. Occasionally when excess accumulates in our checking account, I move that to Ally too. Yesterday I was able to transfer an extra $6,000 as I had gotten paid on Thursday and everything else was covered.

Our CC bills will be higher than usual the next 2 cycles because we bought a dishwasher last week and we’re going out of town for a few days next week but I think I’ll still have enough in...

Sore Today and Working on My Novel Again for NaNoWriMo

October 27th, 2019 at 12:20 AM by Lucky Robin

Yesterday and today were rough days physically. I had my last physical therapy session yesterday and they really put me through the ringer. They had me fill out a form at the end which was the same form and I filled out in the beginning and then compared them and the changes have been dramatic.

Things I didn't even realize had changed, like being able to pick up a grocery bag from the floor instead of having to have it put on the counter for me or standing at the sink for...

Potpourri

October 26th, 2019 at 09:07 PM by DK62565

It's a windy, rainy day here in Central Illinois. A perfect tea drinking day in fact. I like these kind of days as long as there is no storms and no flooding. I think they make me appreciate the really nice days. I have a beef roast in the Crockpot with potatoes and carrots and it is an especially good day for such a meal.

Life has been busy. DH had cataract surgery on Tuesday on his right eye. It's been an adventure since he has worn glasses for over 67 years and seeing distance...

Job and Life Updates

October 26th, 2019 at 05:55 PM by Laura

Hi All,

So ... I didn't get the job I interviewed for at the beginning of October. Sigh. In asking for feedback, I was told that all 3 (THREE!) of us scored high, but that the one had the highest score. They also told me that I might want to focus more on current experience - I had focused more on previous places/experience because I was trying to target management skills.

I also had brought a sheet of paper in with me with notes, and was told that I might have projected...

Waiting

October 26th, 2019 at 12:48 PM by CB in the City

I exchanged emails with my agent yesterday, and it seems that the car (and title) will not be picked up until today. I suppose I will have to wait until Monday before any money appears in my bank account.

I looked at cars online yesterday and wrote down some good possibilities. We'll see if they're still available when I have the money.

I went to the library yesterday, and on the way home I decided to get off at the Walgreens stop to pick up a few groceries. To my surprise,...

Saturday Ramblings

October 26th, 2019 at 12:12 PM by Amber

Balanced my cash envelopes and I have $246. This amount is a combination of all envelopes (e.g gas, food, household), not bad.

I’m annoyed because I spent $30 yesterday. Went with a friend to an event that she was heading to anyway, paid $10 for parking since I drove with her. But she kept harping on gas, so I gave her $20. That won’t happen to me again, I’ll drive myself. I have the money, in one of my sinking funds, it’s money I save for things such as this, but it...

The Decision

October 25th, 2019 at 02:37 PM by CB in the City

Allstate called yesterday morning with the verdict. My car is unrepairable; it is totaled. I thought that was probably the case, but I will admit I was hoping not.

They will give me $6,552, plus, when I buy a new car, they will reimburse me for taxes (maximum of $705), and transfer fees of $135. But all I will have in hand to buy is the $6,552. That will not buy much. It definitely will not replace the car I had.

I have $3,000 to spare in savings. Plus, based on my...

We Were Boozed: Update

October 25th, 2019 at 11:43 AM by Creditcardfree

I loved all the replies on my post about being Boozed!! It is interesting, odd, yet a little fun all at the same time! My post may have sounded a bit negative, but I am all about being neighborly. We live on base, so these are coworkers and fellow military members and families. We support each other in fun and work.

This is what we received.

Note this Text is flyer and Link is https://www.misterretro.com/boozedflyer, which is what you put on your door once you have been Boozed, so people know not to hit your home again!

Originally, I was just going to do one basket, but decided I would rather pass on some of what was in our original basket. The flyer stated to give two baskets, which I found a bit odd. I don't think that is what the other neighbors had been doing.

I purchased a bottle of red wine for $6.49 at our local exchange on base. I also bought a small fall themed candle, a Halloween themed pail, a 3pk of purple glow sticks, and a 2pk of orange curly ribbon. Each item was a $1 at Dollar Tree, so I spent $4.37 with tax. In total I spent $10.86.

I purchased the above items with a specific family in mind, a coworker of my husband, his wife and three daughters. They had not been Boozed yet. The glow sticks were for the kids. The wine and candle for the couple. I added candy to both baskets from two large bags I bought last month and have had in my freezer.

The second basket, was made up of the pail and the bottle of wine given to us. I changed the tissue paper in it and added the candy. I wrapped the wine in the brown bag the other wine came in and wrapped it with a ribbon. The reason I put it in the bag is because some neighbors are posting on the group Facebook page and I didn't want it to look like the one we received. I have decided NOT to post our basket, but I think I will post a thank you for the one we received.

So after dark, I went out and dropped them off. I did purposely ring the doorbell to alert them, so that no teens would have the opportunity. I know for a fact both were taken inside rather quickly!

The family of my husband's coworker posted a picture of the basket we gifted on Facebook with a huge thank you for the treats. That alone made the effort and a little money spent well worth it. Who knows what the other family thought!

Here's the two baskets:

Ultimately, I know this activity was to promote community and bring smiles to faces. It wasn't intended to upset or cause anyone to spend a lot of money. I feel okay about passing on the wine and the bucket, as I knew we wouldn't use them. The vodka shot is up to my husband to use, and I stuck that spider web decoration up in the transom window on our front door. Maybe someone will notice on Halloween that I 'decorated'!

Except for the Halloween trick or treaters that is the extent of our celebrations! Although, I'm tempted to make a costume for that night consisting of a sign I wear that says 'mosquito bait'. The mosquitos were so bad last year we came in early by nearly an hour from handing out candy. And from what we can tell they are bad again this year!! Help!!

Friday Nights Now = Budget Nights

October 25th, 2019 at 09:47 AM by Amber

I absolutely hate interest. I paid over $500 this last billing cycle on CC10, only to be charged another $100+ in interest. All the more reason for me to get this credit card paid off.

It’s a process and I know I must be patient but I can’t wait for this sucker to be gone, so that I can start tackling my student loans. I’m thinking by April 2020, this card 💳 should be paid off.

I’m no longer gazelle intense for a number of reasons, SO is no longer here so I don’t...

Update

October 25th, 2019 at 12:30 AM by GratefulSaver

A few weeks ago, I was offered a job out of nowhere. It was a per diem job making excellent money. I considered it and at one point I almost accepted the position, but suddenly, just thinking about the high stress levels I knew I would encounter, I decided to turn it down. No amount of money is worth endangering my health. We are paying our bills and I am in a very happy place in my life. I love my part-time job and I feel that I am making a difference.

I will have to readjust...

Bears in the neighborhood

October 24th, 2019 at 10:44 PM by Fern

There have been a growing number of bear sightings in my immediate neighborhood. They have been in town for years now, but most often they seem to be on the other side of town, in an area abutting a state park.

I walk around the block often in the morning, and a neighbor driving by slowed down to warn me to "be careful" as he'd just seen a bear in his yard that morning.

I've also talked to a woman I often see walking her beagle and she has seen the bear also as she walked...

How to Know the Kind of Bed You Want?

October 24th, 2019 at 05:48 PM by lenaburkut

We all are one as humans but we all are unique in terms of body type, culture, geography, and sleeping pattern. An individuals’ sleep quality depends on mental status and the body comfort one gets from the bed. Your mattress and bed must be in sync and harmony with your body type. Your mattress must fit your size, height, weight, and posture.

If you are struggling to get sound-sleep you must consult your doctor and seek his advice regarding the mattress and bed type. Your...
