Payday Report for 5/29/20

June 2nd, 2020 at 09:55 PM by Lucky Robin

May was a three paycheck month and so this last paycheck was a bit larger than usual. That's because they don't take medical out of a third check. I never remember that there will be a couple hundred dollars of difference on what is already an extra check, so it is always nice bonus surprise. It only happens a couple times a year, so I guess remembering that doesn't stick out in my mind.

NJ slowly reopening

June 2nd, 2020 at 08:50 PM by Steve

They announced yesterday that restaurants can resume outdoor dining on 6/15 and that salons and barbers can reopen on 6/22. I couldn't care less about salons as I cut my own hair and have for years, but the two main things I've missed during quarantine have been the gym and eating out. Gyms are still closed but restaurants will start coming back in 2 weeks.

We are not typically ones to dine outside. My wife has bad allergies and it's rare for the weather to be cooperative. Either...

May 2020 Interest Income

June 2nd, 2020 at 05:36 PM by Creditcardfree

It's that time of the month where we add up our interest we earned on our cash savings last month. Rates are declining and our large CD expires this month, so numbers will likely go down for awhile.

FNBO $34.79
NFCU $129.37
USAA $0.21
Total $164.37

We threw all interest into our Pot of Possibilities!

No Sam's for Me

June 2nd, 2020 at 12:45 PM by CB in the City

I was planning on using Sam's concierge service this morning, but I got an email saying that this service has been cancelled for safety reasons. I hope it is temporary. I haven't had to use it yet, but I finally have a fairly robust list for items from Sam's. I'm good for a while yet, though.

So I won't be going anywhere today, other than a walk to the tiny library to exchange a book. That is, I hope there will be a book there worth taking. Lately, there have only been...

May 2020 Budget Report

June 2nd, 2020 at 02:06 AM by Petunia 100

May was a 3 paycheck month for me so I had a little extra income to work with. I planned that I would transfer in $50 from a sinking fund for a birthday gift. "Buffer" is the starting amount in checking and not much "other" income was expected.

3 paychecks means 3 cash withdrawals during the month. We have been buying groceries mainly in our little town, rather than driving down to a larger town with lower prices but more shoppers. SB and I agreed I would kick in an...

We are okay

June 1st, 2020 at 09:38 PM by ceejay74

CCF's note made me realize a quick check-in might be welcome! We live in South Minneapolis, the area facing the most unrest, but so far our block has been untouched. We're not getting much sleep but otherwise OK. Most protesters are staying home during curfew so the looters and arsonists are easier to target. Unfortunately there's some white supremacist activity that's very calculated to strike fear so we've been staying up very late watching the streets. So far they've not hit...

Debt Update as of 5/8/20 - How's Life?

June 1st, 2020 at 05:30 PM by Banker Gurl

I am very far behind, trying to get caught up!

$653.66 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!

Renter #1 is behind $500 for May, and owes all $850.00 for June. MO wants to give her a break and take a loss to help get her caught up. I am all for helping people out, especially in these hard times, but I feel like she is just taking advantage of the situation and not making any effort to pay because she can blame it on the current worldly issues. She is still buying items on FB from...

What is So Rare?

June 1st, 2020 at 04:16 PM by My English Castle

It is a day in June! Who knew we'd still be here in June?

Tackling that list is the focus of June here. Last night I listed and sold one of my DD's toy boxes. Are you saying, "Hey, isn't that kid graduating from high school?" Well, yes. But the $35 can go right into the college fund. I have another to list today, but it's a mere plastic bin, so I don't expect much for it.

My DH had an errand this morning at the university, so he's just packed up two boxes with old...

Payday update:

----We paid July's mortgage payment today and hope to pay August mortgage payment by mid June.

----Transferred $300 to the savings account

----Contributed $100 to my Roth IRA. I'm hoping to contribute another $200 by mid June. I'm a bit behind because of some financial setbacks due to the pandemic, but I am determined to fully fund for 2020.

I have two more paychecks to go as the school year ends pretty soon. July and August will be tough with just my...

Wrecked my Mask

June 1st, 2020 at 02:00 PM by CB in the City

I've been de-toxing my mask by tossing it in the microwave for 30 seconds after wearing. Yesterday I mistakenly pressed the wrong button and I burned a hole in my mask! Yikes! That makes me sad because my DIL made it for me, and just wearing it made me feel cared for.

I ordered a new one on Amazon, and at the same time I ordered some shower caps. The whole order was $14. Even though I actually made the order yesterday, I'm counting it as a June expense, since I had already...

Menards Shopping

June 1st, 2020 at 04:01 AM by My English Castle

One of the items on the summer to-do list was paint the mailbox. I thought I had leftover spray paint downstairs, but it was nearly empty. And I'd been meaning to drop off some old tables at Habitat once they re-opened so DD and I had a surprisingly good outing on Saturday.

We dropped the furniture off curbside at a Habitat site, then headed for Menards. I normally dislike Menards and all those big home stores, but we did very well. They were requiring masks and restricting...

New Health Habit for May

June 1st, 2020 at 12:01 AM by Life Balance

I’ve been on a slight hiatus due to feeling overwhelmed and discontinuing unnecessary tasks as a result. And it wasn’t directly because of the country’s 3-month turmoil either but instead my fretting about family members I love. In two separate situations (DS3 and my dad), I watched consequences from poor choices while I was powerless to do anything. But pray, which I did. Both situations eventually resolved themselves better than I thought possible but boy – I feel like...

Dietary Changes are Making Me Feel so Much Better

May 31st, 2020 at 08:17 PM by Lucky Robin

The last time I had gluten was on May 21st and I started my diet on May 23rd. As of today I have lost 10.4 pounds, dropped a clothing size, which gives me a lot of new options with capri pants and shorts and sweat pants, if not jeans. My shirts are a lot looser, too, and longer than they were before, or at least they go down further.

I feel better, too. I am not having near the trouble with mucus pooling in my throat that I was when I was on wheat. It isn't gone, we are...

Refinancing the House

May 31st, 2020 at 05:39 PM by Amber

‪The broker that helped with me purchasing my home called to tell me the rates have dropped to 2.85% that’s 3% points less than I’m paying. I’ll be refinancing my home. ‬my mortgage should drop by $300, I’ll take the savings and throw it at the student loans.

Before I do anything, I’ll have my realtor/accountant friend review. He is the one who told me to let them know I was not interested in the appraisal since I live in the home, I did so and it was agreed...

Walgreens and May Recap

May 31st, 2020 at 03:24 PM by CB in the City

My prescription was $3, and I also spent $16 on groceries at Walgreens. And I will admit most were wants, not needs. I could have ignored that siren call, but I didn't.

Today I'm going to be taking it easy. The only job that really has to be done is cleaning the fish tank -- and even that I could put off another day. Maybe I will.

I'm not going to spend anything today, so here is my May recap:

Housing: $774
Furnishings/Equipment/Decor: $749
Groceries: $197
Utilities:...
