Prepping/ I miss couponing!

June 7th, 2020 at 07:05 PM by Wink

I really miss my couponing and deal hunting! When I was still working, I really only had time to focus on CVS deals and sometimes Walgreens. On Saturday night I would get all my coupons and extra care bucks together, check the new CVS circular for the upcoming week and plan out my Sunday morning shopping trip.

My plan when I retired was to branch out to other stores because I would have more time to learn their policies and how things worked. But all of that has come to a halt...

Peaceful Sunday

June 7th, 2020 at 05:48 PM by My English Castle

We're having a quiet Sunday and cool beautiful weather. We had dinner with a friend last night. I was hesitant but I think we did it mostly right. We did have shared food, but she lives alone and we ate and sat outside on her deck. She is an attorney in private practice and I don't think she's seen anybody in months. I hope it was ok, and it sure was a mood lifter.

Today was supposed to be our DD's high school graduation so it's a bittersweet day around here. We've ordered...

Birthday Gift

June 7th, 2020 at 11:31 AM by CB in the City

DIL's birthday is coming up this month, so I took a look at her Amazon list yesterday and ordered a showerhead for her for $41. Not my typical sort of gift for her, but it was on her list!

I think we may celebrate her birthday when we meet in the park for Father's Day.

Variables are at 13%.

I didn't get much done yesterday. I took a walk in the afternoon and had a visit through DS' window. The weather was amazingly beautiful.

I started watching the lecture series...

Dead Battery, Spot Prawns, Making Ice Cream, and Cleaning House

June 7th, 2020 at 03:09 AM by Lucky Robin

The guys came back from fishing with a lot of spot prawns, hopefully the first of many successful trips. They got two of their pots picked even though they were in the area. Poachers are rotten people. It's not that hard to get your own pots. If you can afford your own boat, you can afford your own pots and bait. Some people are just bad to the core like that. Still, we have plenty for dinner tomorrow and some for the freezer.

I did some cleaning in the kitchen today and...

Making Progress on CC Debt

June 6th, 2020 at 02:53 PM by terri77

From a high of over $22k my credit card debt is down to $16k. With my next payment I will have paid off one of my two cards. Then I will tackle my card with the largely 0% interest from a balance transfer. I can’t recall exactly when the 0% interest rate expires. Sometime next year. I may not do anything but work right now between my 3 jobs, but I will be debt free in 2021!

Just Stuff

June 6th, 2020 at 01:24 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday I made the quiche for breakfast. I decided not to make a crust, and I substituted milk and butter for cream. It turned out to taste pretty good, but the texture wasn't right, and it was watery. Oh well. Three more servings to eat!

It was hot yesterday and about halfway into the day I gave up and turned on the AC. It ran all night. I turned it off this morning, since it is about 70 degrees outside.

I am facing a no-hot-water problem this morning. I noticed...

update

June 6th, 2020 at 01:01 AM by mumof2

Things are going well here..very cold but okay.

Hubby has 3 treatments left next week and then he is done...then we wait 2 months and see what the results are...fingers crossed all good...but it will be nice to get back into a routine.

Still waiting for the insurance money to hit our account once it does it will go into our home deposit account..and that is slowly building up.

The new car that we updated to after a couple weeks had a funny noise...so I called the car yard...

Getting Stuff Done

June 5th, 2020 at 10:32 PM by Lucky Robin

Yesterday we managed to get 20 feet by 3 feet of flowerbeds weeded. Part of this was done the day before in that it was when two of the lilac bushes were dug out. Yesterday was going down about a foot and making sure all the bulbs my mother hates got out. I have to say it was a generously bulbing plant. I thought they were pretty, but I did not like how they draped themselves over the sidewalk. They had fronds with sharp edges that could cut your leg if you were wearing shorts.

We...

Dropping in to say Hello again

June 5th, 2020 at 07:32 PM by Kitty

All is well here, we can now travel around our state but by car as there is no planes to take you anywhere. If is a flight it's been already booked out.

Our tourist towns are haven't much things going to see as only 20 people can go into or go at a time.

As for Covid 19, we are down to 3 active cases now!
I have had one test so far, but I could have had it in early March, when they weren't testing for local cases over overseas case. I had everything else but no cold...

5th Wheel Loan Payment #13

June 5th, 2020 at 01:15 AM by Petunia 100

or #8 since the refi.

Well, another regularly scheduled payment has been made. The new principal balance is $29,270.38. So glad to be under 30k!

Since the previous regularly scheduled payment, I managed to pay an extra $907.46.

The last payment date has moved up to 7/3/27; that is 7 years and 1 month to go if from this point forward I pay only the regular monthly payments.

My "5th Wheel Amortization" page has been updated, if you care to take a peak.

Goals after Debt Payoff

June 4th, 2020 at 08:33 PM by Lucky Robin

I've been thinking about some things I want to get accomplished before seriously saving for the hard goals. I think we can do it over the course of 3 paydays.

1. Save enough cash to pay for a handicapped ramp for the back porch. This is a premade steel one that is easily removable so we can take it to our next home. It will cost about $1000.

2. Pay in cash for a driver's ed class for my son. We haven't been able to find the time to teach him to drive and I need him to...

White Bread and Panera

June 4th, 2020 at 01:14 PM by CB in the City

As a person with CKD (chronic kidney disease) I am advised not to eat whole-wheat bread, as it is difficult for the kidneys to process. I have struggled with finding a white bread that I like. There is plenty of white bread available, but it is mostly too soft and doughy, and flavorless. I found that I really liked the Country French bread from a bakery near my brother's house, but that is in Michigan! The bakeries around here don't seem to offer a similar product. I have...

Hot Day Progress

June 4th, 2020 at 01:45 AM by My English Castle

Not a lot of real money news, but we've been good on the decluttering front. DD and I watched some Marie Kondo videos and sorted though most of her clothes. One big box went to the charity shop today as well as a big plastic bin. I found a place about 20 minutes south of us that recycles refrigerant so we dropped off the broken dehumidifier there, then masked up and went into Kohl's with a load of plastic bags for recycling. I boxed winter sweaters for the out of season closet,...

Five Digits!

June 3rd, 2020 at 10:35 PM by Greenleaf

My student loan dipped under $100K this month! Currently at $97,805.21. Daily accrued interest is at $8.59. I remember how far away that seemed when I started this blog. Will keep chipping away at it- especially with all the economic uncertainty looming, can't wait to get this paid down!

Yesterday

June 3rd, 2020 at 12:41 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday was just a quiet day for me. I walked to the tiny library and exchanged a book, and then I walked to DS' house and talked to the whole family through the window. Later in the day it got really hot, and I turned on the AC and left it on last night. This morning it is cool enough to do without.

I slept late this morning and did not see the local news, so I don't know if last night's protests were more peaceful. It does seem that across the country they were.

I...

saving on insurance

June 3rd, 2020 at 04:16 AM by mumof2

So when we bought our new car it was bought in a couple days and with all that was going on and me being exhausted I just went with our normal insurer...but yesterday I was looking around as was our daughter for her newer car and I found one that offered more and could save me $260 a year more than the other one so rang and got it started and cancelled the other one..so in next few days we should have the extra $260 which will go into our house account...which is now over $1000

Sammy - Vet Bills

June 2nd, 2020 at 11:37 PM by Laura

So our 15 year old Siamese (chocolate point my husband thinks)usually sleeps on the pillow near me. Two nights ago she wasn't there when I woke up. I thought that was weird, but we're in the time of year where the cats don't sleep on the bed so much.

Then I couldn't find her when I fed everyone breakfast. Very unusual, but I had to get to work.

When DH came up shortly before going to work, I asked him if he'd seen her - he hadn't. He went looking and found her in the one...

Lazy Kind of Day

June 2nd, 2020 at 10:37 PM by Lucky Robin

It's raining and the most I have accomplished today is taking a shower and doing a deep conditioning on my hair. I need a good hair cut. My split ends have split ends. We aren't even in phase two yet here so who knows when I can get one. Our county was all ready to apply on Monday, but then they issued new, slightly looser rules, which required five additional forms to be filled out. I think they submitted yesterday. I hope so. It's not stage three, but at least it is one...
