The last few days have been exhausting, but I have muddled through like I always do. I have started canning my green beans from the garden. I have to pick again and get another load or two going tomorrow. My tomatoes are starting to turn red and I will freeze them as they ripen until I have enough to can. We finally got a repair company out to work on the roof for rental #2 which was damaged in a hail storm in 2019. They found additional repairs that were needed (gutters, etc.) and submitted for additional payout from the insurance. So we got a check for another $2672.39. Oddly this one was only made out to us (the previous check for $7K was made out to us and the mortgage company). So we just put this one in savings till the work is done. The workers thoroughly stripped the plaster off the ceiling yesterday. Did I mention dust everywhere? Dust everywhere. And plaster dust is heavier and grittier than regular dust. But yesterday one of the men told me his wife would come and clean after they are done. It is part of the deal. Because, as he says, "It's a lot."

Oh, what a good day! Her Majesty's Passport Office has cleared, printed, and sent DD's UK passport. We'll be able to avoid the visa process with its $500 fee and skip the NHS fees too. Now just waiting on its arrival.

In other good news, we took my car to the garage to investigate the annoying squeak. We were both sure it was shocks or struts. The mechanics all heard it too, but when they got it on the lift, they could see nothing amiss. And now the squeak is gone!

I'm waiting for the workmen to arrive -- which should be in about 10 minutes. All the living room furniture is crammed into the dining room, and some in my bedroom. I will be living in very tight quarters for a few days. Iggy is freaked, but he finally fell asleep in his favorite corner.

Quiet weekend with household chores punctuated by an unfortunate run-in with yellow jackets. Friday we got fed up with them as they've found their way into my DH's basement office, so the bee man came out and sprayed.

It's like the apocalypse here. Heat wave was a nightmare. Because... We had freak weather and lightning. I don't recall *ever* having thunder storms during hot weather. But, that's what happened and is why the state is burning down.

I slept well last night, but woke up with hip and back pain from sleeping in the wrong position. I was also dreaming about sheltering from a tornado, so I guess it wasn't the most peaceful of nights.

I have two back-to-back games today, and before tomorrow I have to get all the living room furniture moved into the dining room (with my son's help.) So it's going to be a busy day.

I had a pleasant day today with my children and husband as we celebrated my birthday. They took me to my favorite brick oven pizza/meatballs place. My state continues to have outdoor dining only. It was a rather warm day today, but we made the most of it.

For the week of 8/16 - 8/23 I spent $34.99 I needed fresh produce mostly, as well as bread and a few other things. I’m posting a day early as I know I won’t be shopping again until next week.

Yesterday in the mail, we got a refund check. Woo-Hoo!

So, with this refund, I have a plan to put a small amount in DH's savings he uses for video games, etc. With the rest, I plant to pay off a debt and I will save the rest. So, that's one piece of good news. Woo-hoo!

We have 2 storms brewing & both look to be headed for the Gulf Coast, unfortunately. I think I am pretty well stocked up for supplies. I have plenty of non-perishable food in my home thanks to my eating plan.

Not much financial news to share. My electric bill hit the bank -- it is $53 -- it is usually around $35, but it is reflecting AC usage now. My retirement account in TIAA is higher than it's ever been, thanks to the performance of the stock market. My net worth has inched higher than it has been in three years.
