  • Teaching ESL online...

Is anyone doing this? I started in early April and it has been so much fun. I work as an independent contractor for a company called Gogokid. I work full time, so I don't open up a ton of teaching slots - but the kids are hilarious and the company makes all the lesson plans for you...so there is very, very little prep. You do not need to be a teacher, but you do need a bachelor's degree (in anything!). The classes are 25 minutes in length and you make around $8-$10 per class. It is not big money and you do have to set aside some of it for taxes. However, there is very little overhead and if you enjoy kids and culture - it might be for you.

The hours are a little wonky since it is based in Beijing. So depending on where you are, you might be working some late nights and early mornings. I currently open up time slots from 5:30am-8:30am and then 9:00pm-10:30pm. I'm still new at it, but it looks like I'm going to average about 40 classes per month. There are little contests and incentives if you take some of their free training courses (which are very informative anyway).

Just wanted to share because I really enjoy it!

My youngest daughter is graduating from college this summer and decided she is going to do ESL. But she is planning to do it in China. She seems passionate about it and requires no financial support from us, so I'm good with it. Mama on the other hand is quite verklempt.

I have a friend who has been teaching English to Chinese kids with PalFish for a year or two. She absolutely loves it.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Yes! This is very similar! The kids are great. Even when they are slightly naughty, you only have them for 25 minutes. Sometimes those kids are my favorites because they just make me laugh!

That sounds awesome. Teaching has always been my passion. Looking for job atm as a teacher. Any ideas where can I register myself? Can it be done online whilst staying at home?
