  • Custom retirement benefit vs estimated benefit on SSA website

Hi everyone. I was on the SSA website this morning. It showed my estimated SS benefit to be one number, but on the graph it showed my "custom retirement benefit" to be another amount. When I did a drop down to try to figure out the difference, the custom one was highlighted in green, but again, no explanation about why these numbers are different. This was not based on when I take SS. The graph showed the different amounts for 62, 67 and 70, none of which matched the estimated benefit. I don't remember seeing it like this before, but then again, it's been a while (maybe several years) since I looked at the site.

I tried googling why the numbers are different, but everything led me back to information on just "retirement benefit", so I have no idea what "custom retirement benefit" means and why it's lower. Can anyone help me understand this? Thank you!

I slid the bar where you can select your retirement age to 65 and that is what showed up as my "custom retirment benefit" even when I slid the bar back to 67 where it was to begin with. If you slide the bar at all, I think it will show as the custom number the last number you landed on that isn't age 62, 67, or 70.

Oh, thank you for figuring that out. So I suppose I can ignore that number. Thank you!
