  • Ever been disappointed by GEICO?

I'm shopping around for new car insurance. Right now I have State Farm. They are okay but I'm sure I could find cheaper. Personally, I think having a car insurance agent is kind of stupid. Paying them to do what I can do with a few clicks online..

Anyway, most of my friends have GEICO. However, my mom was like, "Have any of your friends had to use the insurance." And no, they haven't.

Has anyone here had to use GEICO? Good experience?

I have geico and had to use geico 8 times in 8 years. True story. We get in a lot of accidents. Im so desensitized at this point that my heart no longer speeds up when someone hits me...like that panic kind of feeling. I always get out of the car assuming its safe and I wont get hit...take a bunch of pictures of both vehicles and their license plate...then proceed to swap info...rarely calling the police anymore unless its pretty bad.

None of the accidents were our fault so maybe thats why geico has treated us so well. Not sure how they would have responded if all 8 accidents were our fault. My guess is they would have dropped us after the 4th or 5th.

I have Amica... i'm pretty happy with them. Have had a lot of incidence over the past few years and they always came through.

I've had Geico for quite a while now. They took very good care of me when I was the middle car in a 6 car pileup. Took care of my claim quickly and efficiently, I have no complaints. They're also BY FAR the cheapest in my area. I keep getting quotes in the hopes of being able to lower my insurance ($225 a month for one car!) but everyone else quotes me double. I'm in a very high cost area for insurance. I'll most likely stick with Geico for the long run, unless someone else is able to break into my area and do better.

GEICO treated me well for many years, but they started upping my rates for no reason. I started checking other insurance and got comparable insurance for 50% and that amount hasn't been raised in 3 years now. GEICO keeps sending me letters saying they can now offer me all these magic discounts that weren't there before. Uh-huh. I may go back one day, we'll see.
Don't torture yourself, thats what I'm here for.

Pays to shop insurance occasionally to make sure you are getting a decent deal, but I prefer to purchase insurance from and individual that I know rather than dealing online. That relationship can be very helpful in the event of a serious claim.

I've gotten quotes from Geico a few times over the years, but they've always come in higher than my current provider, so I have no experience with them as my actual insurer.

That's smart. Do you use any good comparison tools? Doing it one by one is so daunting.

Had them for a while, then got one ticket.

They raised my monthly premium from 170 to 450

Idiots. Basically forcing me to leave. If they raised it a little they would have kept a good customer. I've had maybe two claims in like 15 years. But they wouldn't budge.

                  Switched to progressive for 160/month.

At least you ultimately saved $10/month out of the deal.

I have Geico right now because they gave me the cheapest quote.

In terms of service, I've been into an accident once with Geico but it was not my fault so my premium did not increase. I've been into an accident also once with AAA, it was very good service and they sent me to a reputable and expensive mechanic, the only thing I was able to compare in the process with Geico is that they sent me to a cheap mechanic.

Oh trust me I'm very happy about that.

It just annoyed me that geico raised my premium so much after just one ticket. Had they raised it to maybe 220 or 230 I probably shrug it off and stay with them. But they forced a good customer out.
