If your community has people with any extra cash you can do really well mowing lawns/raking/shovelling/planting/weeding/trimming/running errands/whatever, but you have to do a good job. If you're having problems drumming up business (but people have the money) offer a free trial whatever (mowing,shopping,etc.).

referee/umpire youth sports. Soccer reffing can pay upwards of $30 for 90 minutes CASH.

What about being a nanny/babysitter? Many people can get $8-$10/hr. and you can do your homework while the baby sleeps.

Also, maybe you could try to look into being a receptionist at a local hair salons. They typically pay in the $8-$12 range.

Work as a waiter or waitress instead of the conveniece store. Although the base wage is below minimum, the tips more than make up for it. Try for a place like TGI Friday's or Chili's -- if they don't hire you because they want someone with experience, start with a steakhouse like Ponderosa or Angus. After working 6 months to a year, apply for jobs at more expensive restaurants -- the higher the cost of the food, the higher the tips.

How are your computer skills? You can make quite a bit hiring out to set up systems, trouble shoot for people who've fouled themselves up, advise people who want to buy a new one, install add-ons, give one-on-one instruction, do general repairs. If you are good, you will get work by word of mouth from your customers.

1. are you artistic? do artwork and sell it on cafepress.com (i make great money on there from a store i've had since 2002)

2. theres always a need for lawn care people. shoot, i just shelled out over 100 bucks for someone to come in and haul away all the leaves that had accumulated on our 1 acre property over the winter - it only took him 6 hours. dont just rely on "asking" people. have people who need it come to you - place cheap ads in your local penny saver or trader. those who need the work will call.

3. deliver pizzas (not sure the age limit there though?) or work at a restaurant that hires younger people (tips!)

4. walk dogs

5. do pet sitting

6. learn website design and build small websites for local businesses

7. get a pressure washer and clean people's sidewalks, porches, etc.

8. start a blog on a topic you love and add google adsense

9. tutor kids in a subject you love (piano? math? history? SAT's? soccer?)

10. resell your old stuff on ebay or look for great finds at thrift stores / flea markets and then resell that for profit

11. sell avon, mary kay, or another home party line that you like (sorry, can't tell if you are a guy or a girl?)

....always remember that anything you do MUST be professional. first impressions are a must. if you give the impression you are JUST a kid in it for a few extra bucks, no, no one will ever be interested. people want quality, especially if they're shelling out their hard earned cash. they dont care that you need money. stand up for yourself and say "hey, here's what i have to offer, im good at it, and this is why you need this".

Continually ask yourself the question "What needs doing, and what can I do about it" and you'll start to see opportunity in everything.

your 17 your still young......ya u want money now go get a job under the table at restaraunt...stay in school get good grades go to colllege dont worry so much about now.. build for later when it counts!

When I was 17, I got certified as a lifeguard and worked at a lake. Its great to have that knowledge in general. I'm sure your community has a local pool. Starting pay is usually a lot more than min. wage, plus its not a stressful job, and the hours are flexible.

you could cut and stack wood for people. Of course, you would need a chain saw, a source of wood, a pickup, ... etc.

Many people throw away $2-3 per week in deposits (cans and bottles) I've seen $10 worth in front of one house! You can make beaucoup cash if you're willing to get up early on recycle pick up days.
