  • Guns as an investment?

My friend thinks guns are a good investment. I don't see why. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

And he says there's no zombie apocalypse coming, it's just that more stringent laws are slowly raising gun prices.

In general, he is incorrect. "Investments" are supposed to make you a significant return over time.
While there may be the occasional rare or antique firearm that could be a good long term investment, most just "hold their own" in value.

There were a couple occasions following school shootings, etc. where guns like AR-15's doubled in value in very short order and were sold out everywhere. But those are back down to regular prices now.

Guns are a great investment...if an apocalypse happens and you have to defend your life several times a day...or to protect your food supply which will probably just run out in 2 weeks anyway. In that scenario guns have the potential to extend your life for a couple weeks.

Guns to me are not a investment..unless you're running a jewelery store (My dad used to carry a concealed handgun in his pants; Jewelery stores can be tempting targets for burglars if you can believe it, which is why my dad did that) or you like hunting. And even then, you don't get any money back from them. Oh and yeah, if you feel you need for protection (and then you'd better make sure you can shoot with it).

Seriously, I think if you want to make money with a investment, guns are not the answer. If you want to invest in self defense or want to go deer hunting a lot, guns can be a answer to that.

Why not cut out the middle man and invest in lead?
