  • Roth IRA: Direct contributions may be withdrawn at any time.

According to Wikipedia, "Direct contributions may be withdrawn at any time" on Roth IRAs. It is implied that these withdrawals can be made with no penalties (as there are none listed). Can anyone confirm this? I have no plans to withdraw from my Roth IRA, but I do try to be as informed of my options when investing as I can be, and this confused me as I don't see anything on the irs.gov site to confirm or refute this.

Yes, you can withdraw direct ROTH contributions at any time. There are different rules for money that was converted into ROTHs, etc. You can't withdraw the earnings made on a ROTH so easily. Just to clarify. But yes, any money you deposit directly into a ROTH is easy to remove.

Remember, a Roth IRA is different from a Roth 401k. The Roth 401k's have a different formula for withdrawal due to the employers contribution that is taxable and penalties apply.
