  • HSBC online banking

    Be careful, very careful.
A request to ACH money from my HSBC online banking to my Citi account on a Wednesday could take up to 6 days maybe 7. Reason being HSBC does not count day transfer was initiated, Saturday is a day off, Sunday is a Day off and Monday could be a holiday.
While a 3000 dollar transfer is hardy no interest try transferring 80K or more.

Same holds for transferring into HSBC online. Money is pulled out of your account same or next day and doesn't show up on books of HSBC online for can you say at least 3 days depending on weekends and holidays.

Emigrant Savings does transfer in a day. So does out Treasury Department.
So what's up with HSBC online?
Can you say theft of your interest earning dollars? Or very sloppy accounting.

I opened up an account with them when they were offering the 6% rate, but didn't like their float time as well. When you ask them, they blame it on the bank where the money is transferred to. I, like you have never had that problem with the other online banks. FNBO is a little slow too. You defintely lose interest when you do this. I'm wondering if you can request the money from your bank to them. Like you, I think that it's a form of thievery.

I know longer have an account with them.

I've been disappointed with the transaction times as well. My balances are small enough that we are talking about portions of pennies lost to interest however. I only transfer money IN at this point, and now that I'm using direct deposit they show up rather quickly.

I have an HSBC Direct account and can't believe how long it takes for something going into or out of my account to show up. Other than that I've been pretty happy in my limited experience with them. I do like how easy they make it to move money into and more importantly out of the account. Allows you to move it wherever you can get the highest rate (which is currently somewhere else).
