  • Suddenly A Valuable Customer

So I've been with Verizon for 18 years. I've mentioned Visible on here before, but never switched. With Verizon I pay $65 for talk / text / 2 gig of data. I go over once every few months and it is an additional $15 when I do. Visible is unlimited everything for $25.

Someone messaged me about referral numbers, so I decided to give Visible another look yesterday evening.

To keep my current phone number I have to provide my current account number, zip code, and pin number. While I thought I knew my pin, it ended up it was a different "transfer pin" which I have to get from Verizon. I searched through my profile and finally figured out how to request the right pin number. In the process though I locked myself out for 24 hours due to surpassing the log in failure total.

Well what would you know today! I got a message from Verizon stating that because I was such a valuable customer I have a $10 per month discount available for the next 12 months. It's almost like requesting a transfer pin causes them to pay attention.

Yes, threatening to leave often prompts companies to try to sweeten the deal for you to stay. It's expensive to obtain a new customer; it's far cheaper to retain an existing one.

Of course, this deal would still have you paying $55/month instead of $25, and you'd still be subject to the $15 overage charges.

Yes the transfer PIN is different from your regular PIN. They make it not so easy to leave where you have to contact customer service in order to obtain it.

        Just an update.

When I contacted Verizon's customer service, the guy gave me the run around that the discount required changing my account to paperless billing. This pissed me off enough I hung up.

About 15 minutes later he called me back and said that actually I was listed as having the loyalty discount. He then tried to get me to jump through some more hoops, so I hung up again.

The next day I went by the local Verizon store. They did some head scratching but finally figured out how to apply the discount.

I'll give it a month or two.

I have been with so many different carriers. AT & T has the best signal in remote areas and in Mexico, IMHO. Verizon & T-Mobile often only have SOS signal in remote areas. Sprint was the worst and I'm glad they got acquired by T-Mobile.

I hate to admit but I'm too lazy to change from tmobile and honestly our plan is so good it's hard to give it up. It's unbeatable even by ting and mint. Only way is if kicked one of the kids off and I'd save $20.

$120 plus taxes and fees (which I'm not sure Ting and Mint don't also charge, I suspect they do charge these taxes and fees) for 4 lines and 2 tablets. So $20 more for 1 kid line and my work phone number which I write off since it's solely for business purposes and I don't use it for anything else. $20 is not outrageous considering what most people try to write off. I also bought a used iphone for $100 so i'm not extravagent.

So $120 plus taxes and fees for 5 lines and 2 tablets unlimited text, talk, data, and hotspotting. Works across the world literally. We've used it in Asia (india, japan, china, hong kong, singapore, thailand, korea), Australia, Europe (london, paris, spain, germany), Mexico, and Canada. We've never paid roaming or any extra fees. I'm sure we are throttled but at the same time it's ridiculous that we hop off and get 4G anywhere we go. Beating the plan we have might be close to impossible. If someone can beat our plans then I'm all ears. But I've compared it to numerous friends and for sure none of the others even google fi come close. We've also been grandfathered in and have to buy our phones so it's not "free". We don't upgrade to new phones or else our plan would change.

So i'm not sure our plan would work for people who like to upgrade phones. Or would have sticker shock buying their phones. I buy used iphones for the kids for $100. Iphone SE 2022 for them and me work. Pixel phones for DH and I. BIL buys latest and greatest and OOP so he buys one every other year for a $1000 or something. But he also knows he's not getting a better deal than his $40 a month all in. Yeah I should drop him further with the kids but he's been paying $40 for awhile and a few years there he wasn't paying...

I have a Cricket cell phone. It is a flip phone, so I pay for talk and text only for $25.00. The only thing cheaper I have used was tracfone. Sometimes, I had issues with the phones, though, and calling customer service in India or somwhere does not work well. Cricket works better because there is a store front in my area.
