Do you have any special plans for New Year's Eve and Day? Does it involve a splurge or are you going to start the New Year off with frugality? What do you think is the best New Year's Eve you can get for the money?
We typically stay home. Last year, Philadelphia did their fireworks show twice, once at midnight but an earlier show for families at 8 or 9. We went to that and were back home long before things got crazy on the roads.
A couple of years we've also gone to the local First Night celebration. That's a great event where they have a dozen or so venues throughout town with various entertainment, all family-friendly. You pay a nominal flat price for a badge that gets you into everything. So for about $15/person, you can spend the evening going to comedians, jugglers, musicians, choirs, and more. They also do fireworks at 9 and 12. There are food vendors as well. We only go to that if the weather is mild since there's a lot of walking outside involved to get from one venue to the next.

* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.
Where you wont find me is at some club or event where hundreds or thousands gather. Id rather make it till 2018 instead of getting ran over by a truck or shot up. Large crowds dont interest me...never have.
Prob get some take out and stay home with the furry baby.
I'm tired of sitting at home, so I booked a ski vacation. My sister's family decided to come to. I'm really excited to see my daughter ski for the first time.
A New Year's Day tradition for us is to hit the Dillard's New Year's sale to buy gifts for DH's family and business customers. He travels overseas to see them later in January.
Well I was watching TV and looking at a new sewing magazine that I got in the mail, all cozy in front of a space heater. After 2 full days without heat, we are already getting into a habit of how to stay warm. Last night hubby got the bedroom warm enough that I was having trouble sleeping because I was too hot!
We took a short break from the Game of Thrones Marathon and visited the National Christmas Tree on The Ellipse. Surprisingly, there were not a lot of visitors. Well, maybe not so surprising when you factor in the temperature (it was about 15F when we swung by). We then came home and made chocolate chip cookies.
I tried to stay awake, but I drifted off to sleep about 15 mins before Midnight.
In years past, the New Year has been rung in with leftover fireworks and a few gunshots.
I don't know what exactly they were, but the explosions were so loud and so close that I actually got up to see if the house across the street was still standing. They went on for over an hour and pretty well ruined any enjoyment from watching the ball drop--and I couldn't hear the tv over the noise anyway.
On a better note, I woke to see my online savings account is now paying 1.50% and a 5-year CD is now 2.50%. Looking better
We hit the Dillard's New Year's Day sale this morning as planned. DH finished up the gift shopping for his overseas trip later this month, and I bought 1 shirt. We also ran in to 5 people we know. (It's a very popular sale around here.)
Yesterday we deep-cleaned the kitchen, video chatted with the overseas family, ate a nice dinner in with a glass of wine, and were asleep before midnight!
