  • Dirty coins now cleaned. Bag of all coins from the same lot. It takes a lot of elbow grease to clean them.

    • In California purchases above $1500 are exempt from being charged a 10% tax. For some reason Pinehurst coins has not been charging me the 10% tax on my purchases under $1500 which I've made a few purchases already. Not sure why but I'm not complaining. All others add taxes when I attempt to place an order under $1500 such as APMEX, JD Bullion, SD Bullion, Money Metals, Liberty Coin, etc.

        • Same - picked up 10 more gram rounds of .999 silver this week.

Amazon price are terrible for silver, but I haven't found a good way to convert Amazon credit assets another way.

          • James I get the impression that you are like me and addicted to precious metals. And cryptos too.

            • You know QMM, its really clear that precious metals have a place in the individual portfolio.

There are a lot of drawbacks to holding them - for example they don't really produce income. And if you are holding physical metal, they can be hard to sell or trade. This is especially the case if you buy collectibles or foreign art type coins or bars in non-standard amounts.

But, there is nothing wrong with stacking some silver and gold - just so long as the investor does the due diligence and runs the numbers to be sure its helping their portfolio.

              • It failed the magnet test being magnetic (real silver supposed to be non-magnet), so I took a hack saw and cut into the 1 oz silver American eagle and expected to see copper inside but it is silver in color which threw me a curve ball. I ordered a digital scale and it supposed to be a certain weight so will be testing it later. Also, ordered the silver testing solution along with a testing stone to scratch the metal on the stone and test the etching with the solution and will test it later as well but I'm 99% sure it is fake. I've been buying a lot of silver so I told myself it's time to start testing it as well.

                    • For mercury dimes this table lists the prices according to the year and mint mark and condition. Certain years can fetch a few hundred dollars to a 1916-D which can be worth $1500. I'll have to check mine's later.

                      • Real 1 oz silver American eagles have a weight of 31grams such as this one pictured which is a bit hard to see. All the fakes are coming in at 29 grams. I'm thinking of going for a jog tomorrow in my neighborhood and dropping the (5) fakes on the sidewalk and letting strangers find them, lol.

                          • BRICS may not create a new gold standard, but the world still needs a monetary metal | Kitco News

"The days of a dollar-centric world is over." For those who think the dollar will continue to be the world's reserve currency, don't be that ostrich with its head in the sand. I don't want the dollar to get dethroned and hope it continues to be the worlds' reserve currency but the BRICS are working hard to topple the dollar.

                            • 1916 Mercury dime (on the list can be worth $1500 with a mint mark "D." Hard to make out the mint mark and has some damage on the reverse but I'll need to do some homework on this one. Mint mark is just to the right of the "E" of the ONE and just to the left of the olive branch stems.

                              • I think I have a "D" and will drive later to my local coin shop. On eBay these start at $1500.
