  • If you have Wells Fargo, check your credit

    Hi Guys,

    Here today's public service announcement:

If you have an account at Wells Fargo, CHECK YOUR CREDIT.

Under pressure from senior managers, bank staff opened over 1.5 million accounts and 500,000 credit cards without customers consent or knowledge.

Review your credit using a free service like Credit Karma or annualcreditreport.com to see if an unauthorized account was ever opened in your name — and if it was, whether it is still active. Look for any erroneous late charges that may have damaged your credit score, and whether any past rejections could be traced to that damage. Address any unauthorized accounts that are still open immediately, and use these as evidence in case you need to hassle with Wells Fargo to get the account closed and any fees reversed.

I was curious about this as we sold our home in earlier this year (which had a wells fargo mortgage) and got a construction loan over the summer. (for those that haven't had a construction loan interview, I have had more comfortable discussions with my DR and taking about sex with my teens)

Glad to say I was still in the low 800s

I know it would not happen but Wells should shut down and any other bank that has this culture better re-think their strategies.

        I have a small 401K through Wells.

Just checked my credit. No problems.

I've been a Wells Fargo customer for years, and have never had a problem--and yes, I recently checked my credit when I was debating trading in my car.

On the flip side, their business is fine and their stock is way down. I'm planning to buy some Wells Fargo stock through their direct purchase plan this month to hold long term. I think they're paying about 3.4% dividends right now.
