I paid off our HELOC today! I started a thread in the Debt forum with the details but I certainly count that as a win. On to retiring the mortgage and being entirely debt-free for the first time in our lives by next fall.

That saved me $2.50 and will continue to save me $2.50 every time I order them again which will add up over time.Don't torture yourself, thats what I'm here for.

Also, about 3 years ago I had a brief conversation with some colleagues about our company's 401k. I mentioned how much I like Vanguard, and how I wished I could roll my 401k there. Last week at work a colleague mentioned that he had relayed the conversation to his father (the family "money guy") who had concurred with my views. Because my colleague had a small amount of $ just "sitting around" he decided to stick the money in Vanguard (I have no idea which funds, I did not press for details), and has been very happy with the growth. A few months ago I mentioned catchup contributions to my 401K to the same colleague, and in the same conversation last week he mentioned that he had adjusted his withholding to make catchup contributions (something he hadn't thought about before) and was excited to see how much was going to his 401k from his last paycheck.
And I have a co-worker who for years has asked me about finances and watched my 457 plan balance grow and grow and saying he should put more money in. I always told him to start, and encouraged him to increase it when he felt able. Well just last week he told me he is maxing it out for the year (will hit the limit on the last pay of the year). I know he did that partly due to seeing me do it year after year. I know that will help him down the road.Don't torture yourself, thats what I'm here for.

Made $426 today shorting Papa Johns after the owner made the racist statement. I wish I shorted Facebook which dropped 20% today.
Edit to add: I went on a hunch that Papa John's would face some headwinds after the news broke about the statement and sure enough I was right. No one saw Facebook dropping today by 20%.Last edited by QuarterMillionMan; 07-25-2018, 06:00 PM.

I had managed to get through new insurance for the car and the house that were cheaper, but I turned over the rental property to hubby as I had run out of time and energy. Finally by bundling everything all together the rates from Allstate for all three insurances, are coming out $600 LESS than the original house payment alone! I'm not sure of all the numbers, but considering how much Liberty Mutual wanted for all three, we are almost $2000 ahead! Will have to cancel the insurance I had set up for us and this is now his permanent job! He had to spend hours on the phone to do it, and that is my problem. We still have a land line that has to be held to our ear and I can't have my wrist and elbow joints bent like that for more than a few minutes and certainly not hours, as the arm(s) would be out of commission for several days afterward.

I have a smart phone to use and review for Vine so that will solve the problem, once I figure out how to use it!
