  • Cost of postage going DOWN!

Effective today, April 10, the cost of a first class stamp is dropping by 2 cents to $0.47. It is the first time in almost a century that the price has ever dropped.

Of course, if you stocked up on Forever stamps, you just lost some money, but otherwise it's good news.

I was actually looking to buy stamps a few weeks ago and decided I had enough to hold me for a while so I waited. I'm glad that I did.

Oh, no! I over-paid for my "Forever stamps"!

Yep, I've been waiting to stock up since I heard. Something I need to do tomorrow.

I've often debated buying about $50K worth of forever stamps and just putting them in a safety deposit box. You are basically guaranteed a 2.5% annual return without doing anything, and you could sell them whenever you want.

my mother is deeply upset that she lost 2 cents on her roll of Forever Stamps, like write an angry letter to the Postmaster General level upset, lol. But then she'd lose a whole stamp!

The "additional ounce" price has decreased before, sometime during the '90s I think. It's dropping from 22 to 21 cents this week. First Class flats and package prices are down a bit too.

It's tough to turn a profit that way since most postage sells for a discount. On eBay stamps regularly sell for 30% less than their face value.

I had actually been looking on ebay recently to buy a roll since I'm running low. I decided to wait since I still had 30 or so. Now I'll be able to get them for a couple of dollars less.

Because people make crazy lowball offers on stamps all the time and it's just too tempting to dump a roll so u can buy a carton of Camels.

They're worth only what someone will pay. Some people have way more supply than they need, and they'd rather have cash instead.
