Well I think you can accumulate up to $1 off per gallon max. But yeah...you have to spend quite a bit at giant to make any dent when you pull up to a shell station.

The shells here are usually 10-15 cents higher...but there are times when I accumulate 30cents off per gallon. Very few and far between though since we now do most of our shopping at costco.

I've had bad experiences with Citgo gas in the past (engine knocks, catalytic converter issues, rough idling, etc. that only occurred when I filled up at the Citgo). Probably not as much of an issue these days with newer cars, but I still have that negative connotation. (There are very few Citgo stations in my area; the ones that were here are mostly gone, so maybe I wasn't the only one who avoided them.) The Shell stations here are pretty well in line with everyone else, though. They do give a 10-cent per gallon discount if you pay cash, and I can at times get 10 cents off per gallon with a Kroger card, so they're often the best price. (Or were, until the Kroger gas station opened up next door, at which I scored 70 cents off per gallon the other day.)

I think advertisers have gotten incredibly good at seducing folks into buying things, but I think most of us at SA are more careful because we study how our money is spent and how advertisers try to convince us to buy.
