  • Unbiased Financial Media

I use CNN Money for my financial news & info hub, but I have to read each with with a left-wing asterisk. This is fine, bc all US media is like this, so I'm used to it. But if there are better options I'd entertain a shift to another financial news provider; I think Google finance is a solid alternative?

    Suggestions? Thanks!

I use a variety of sources to try to get information from all sides and angles. I check CNBC, Bloomberg, Yahoo Finance, Marketwatch, and Morningstar on a regular basis.

There is no such thing as "unbiased". Any time you are reading or watching any news, financial or otherwise, you need to consider the source and what their biases might be. And so much of economics is tangled up in politics that they can't be separated (look the current government shutdown).

I like Consumer Reports Money Adviser for information.

But they don't offer "financial news" as in "what's happening on The Street today."

I understand there is no way to eliminate bias. However, just as the Associate Press or NPR have done with news, there are ways to be independent and reduce as much of this bias as possible.

These are the suggestions I am looking for.

I prefer the Wall Street Journal. It normally seems to be fairly neutral/straightforward & definitely far less politically biased than places like Fox, CNN, NBC, and others. I studied journalism for years when I was younger, so I'm finicky about seeking out quality, ethical, relatively unbiased reporting (which most news outlets do not provide, by any stretch of the imagination).

One of the most notable biases I've found with WSJ is in what subjects are selected for coverage -- whereas the mainstream network guys cover everything & put their slant on it all, WSJ sometimes just doesn't cover something at all, or DOES cover a story otherwise untold elsewhere...but of what IS covered, they keep it fairly neutral & don't politicize or editorialize within their articles or reports. Also, they do tend to tailor many of their stories toward the concerns of business executives & the super-wealthy, which changes the reporting perspective somewhat.

Having tried out all the different American media sources I could find, I've found that I far prefer the Journal. Plus, they focus their coverage around business & finance topics, so I enjoy that perspective as well. Internationally, BBC & Al Jazeera are both high-quality news outlets as well, and I'll use them occasionally to get a better global perspective.
