  • Today I did very little but I hit up the built in bar in the basement. Emptied 3 bottles w/very little left of stuff I do NOT drink and recycled the bottles. Brought 1 upstairs to use.

I have a couple more bottles (Chevis & Jack) that I need to find good homes for-have a place for the Chevis in another week/2.

Dropping 4 medium size boxes on DD1 tomorrow. That will clear MAJOR space in Bed 3.

    • I HATE the time change!!!

While I was in the basement yesterday I tripped over (litterally) a box w/some pots & pans. I just realized this morning that several are from when we cleared my parent's condo summer 05. One pot I took upstairs to use myself. It is PERFECT for the braised/one pot stuff I cook this time of year. The 10 qt pot is WAAY bigger than I need at this stage of my life so into the donate box. Also put a 6 qt pot w/steamer basket, bought at Big Lots about 5 years ago, that I KNOW I have not used in 2-3 years in donate. That cleared nearly 1/2 a 24" cabinet. I am still saving the items that match my current Visions cookware.

Probably will not do too much today as I have to 'load' my car, run a couple errands, visit my Dad & go Halloween w/DDs & DGkids.

      • I realize I haven't posted for a couple of days. I haven't done anything significant - just the usual little stuff here and there like getting notes off my dresser, making sure stuff gets into the recycling bin, sorting and putting away the laundry, not leaving things lying around on the table, stairs or floor, filing things where they belong when I get them, etc. We were busy running around doing various things this weekend and I really didn't spend any dedicated time on decluttering. We will be out of town for a few days this week so nothing will get done at home on those days. I will be off work and at home Tuesday and part of Wednesday before we leave so I will definitely do some work then.

I spent most of the evening preparing for an annual religious retreat I'm in charge of this weekend. At the start of the night, I had papers and folders spread all over the sitting room floor. By the time I was done, though, I had the stuff we need to take with us packed and ready to go and everything we didn't need to take piled up neatly. I need to go through it all as there is quite a bit of stuff that I can recycle but I'll wait until after the program. Then I'll go through everything before packing it all away for next year's program.
          Moving day is coming up!

For food I am down to 4 pounds of rice, 1 bag of powdered gatorade, frozen beans, and soy milk. I may have to buy a little more food before I actually move. Still a bit more sorting and packing to do... Yeah... I wish... a TON to do!

          • Felt like I was copping out after my earlier post. After dinner, I went through today's newspaper and got that all recycled as well as the Sunday Parade magazines for the past few weeks that had been saved and not yet read. Then I came upstairs and cleared a bunch of stuff off my desk including all the paperwork from our mortgage refi that closed on Friday and numerous other things that had accumulated over the past week. I was starting to lose my desk again but it is back now.

            • For me it was just damage control this weekend. Halloween treats and trash have been the only thing I've been able to de-clutter this weekend. I'm stashing the candy tomorrow because I'm tired of all the wrappers and trash my kids are leaving around. Enough is enough.

But, I am going to ship some books tomorrow that I got rid of on Listia. Will be looking for some more stuff to list throughout the week. My goal is to get rid of a bunch of junk for one nice Christmas gift (maybe a gift card) from Listia.

              • I had a REALLY accomplished Sunday. I spent about 45 minutes in the basement and made 5 trips to trash/recycle cans (+ a regular trash run) getting rid of 15 items. I ‘found’ and returned to use (in wash group) a transitional pant outfit and a blouse. Why/how they were in the basement I have NO clue.

Items I had put out for the local pickers a couple days ago were all GONE.

Further, I had a list of 3 food prep & cooking things I wanted to do. All are done and I have 3 leftover servings of quiche for this week. More: I had a list of 3 household chores to do and did 2 of them; last item will take me 5 minutes this am.

I then did a few errands, visited my Dad, took the 4 cartons of stuff to DD1, went trick/treat w/ the grandkids and other grandparents and we all had dinner.

Needless to say I was POOPED when I got home about 8 pm. May not do anything special for declutter today. I am thinking of making this a MAJOR kitchen clean day. Cabinets & appliances need a good exterior wash.

                • We didn't do much yesterday except to do early voting. We stood in line for 2 1/2 hours. My hubby wasn't going to be in our district to vote so we both went together. It's over with for us. Met a lot of nice people there and not one word about politics.

Didn't have many kids last night for Halloween so, I returned the unopened bags of candy. For me, that's DECLUTTERING and getting rid of it early in sthe AM. Sometimes I will put returns off for a day or so, but not so this time. Didn't want to see the candy laying around.

                  • I worked today but took the rest of the week off. I spent the day getting through all of the charts, reports, forms and other stuff on my desk and counter at the office. I always like to leave with a clean slate (even though I know there will be a mound of stuff waiting for me when I return on Monday).

On a side note, it was so nice to walk into our computer room/office a few minutes ago when I got home and see my desk. It isn't perfect but it sure is a whole lot better than it was before I cleaned it last night.

On a related note, my daughter has been decluttering in her room, specifically her desk. We bought it for her a few years ago and she has never really used it. It became a dumping ground for everything and anything. As of a few days ago, it is actually cleaned off to the point where it can be used for its intended purpose. Time will tell if she actually does so, but at least it is there if she wants it. She's very proud of it, and I'm proud of her for doing it.

                    • I came home from a couple days away, and threw all the mail in the recycle bag. All except one check. We've received so many catalogs lately--and I threw all of them out.

                      More tomorrow!

                      • On Monday:
Sample pack for a pot of coffee used
                        Sun insert coupons clipped& filed
Older saved coupon inserts reviewed and recycled if expired
Sun newspaper, ALL sections, finished & recycled
Reviewed the positions of the candidates for election on Tue & made my final decisions. Every position went the way I I was t a couple weeks ago. This is clearing of MAJOR mind clutter.

                        • Yesterday, I threw out all of the newspapers, mail, sales ads to be recycled. I threw out my usual 27 items I found around the house. I also went through my refrig before garbage day today.

On Sunday, I went outside and looked at the weeds in my front garden and though that it also needs decluttering. I pulled out 27 weeds. If I pulled out 27 everyday, they would be soon be gone. We forget about our garden. It's the first thing you see when you go to my doorway.

Today, I pulled another 27 weeds. Clutter is too much of anything that gets in your way or keeps you from seeing the beauty of any object.

                          • Off from work today. Did some stuff this morning including packing up a box of books to take to Goodwill, retrieving an item that had accidentally gotten sucked up by the vacuum and that bag was sitting on the floor ever since (weeks ago), paid a couple of bills, did 2 loads of laundry and took 4 boxes (including the box of books) to Goodwill. The rest was some of the stuff I had packed up in the garage recently. There are still 2 more boxes to go but I couldn't fit them all in my trunk. I'll probably get the other two over there tomorrow.

Today, my daughter was home with me so we went out a bit but tomorrow I'll be here by myself for a few hours so I should get more done. I may try and spend an hour or so in the garage since the weather is still nice and see if I can pack up a couple more boxes to give away.

                            • Am I correct in noting the latest GW donation boxes didn't clutter the living rm? You are doing a great job going forward without quitting. Give DD our compliments for de-cluttering her desk and a challenge to keep clutter at bay. If her bureau drawers are stuffed, making it difficult to put fold-ables away, perhaps she will do a quick sort so any that are wrecked via sprung elastic, stained, ripped go to trash. Items in good condition that she no longer wears would bless those who shop Goodwill.
