Cost of Living Raises????

Has anyone ever asked their employer for a cost of living raise? Our company gives the standard 3.5% raise or below depending on performance. 2 years ago I did get an adjustment in wages of about 10% increase because they did a market survey in our area of what people with my title makes. (yeah for me)

I am just curious if anyone has asked and received or been denied a cost of living increase.

when my DH was interviewed for the job he has now they asked him what wage he expected when DH told them they almost coughed up a lung when he told them ,but they did the research and found out they were drastically underpaying the employees in that department

so Dh got the job and at the wage he asked for and my DH new boss received a huge raise because of DH ,talk about a way to get on the boss' good side ;-)

yearly he gets a 3-5 percent raised based on personal and company performance

My DH works for the Walmart Distribution Center part-time for extra income (he is the ONLY part-time employee though, out of the 1,000 workers!) and they give a 50 cent raise every year for cost of living. He now makes nearly $20/hour. Say what you want about Walmart, they do pay well!

I'm a physician. As a group, our income has been steadily falling for about 10 years now. I'd be overjoyed with a 3% increase.

Both my spouse and I will be getting 3.25% wage increases on 4/2008.

And a 3.50% wage increase in 4/2009.

Our last wage increase was 2.75% in 1/2007.

A lot of coworkers I work with were actually complaining about this.

I cannot imagine why.

I get a yearly raise that averages 3% but last year they compared out wages to the marketplace and gave us about a 10% raise to keep up with the wages in our area. Do you get a yearly review increase as well for job performance?

where can you find out how much other companys are paying for your type of work?

do a google search for salary comparison. i like salary.com which will put you in the ballpark.

It might not be a bad idea to speak to your employer about this topic, afterall, most of them won't just initiate that talk with you.

Also, cost of living is really raising, and most people's salary aren't raising at the same rate, which leaves people with less savings and other problems.
