Does anyone use GoodSearch.com or understand how it works?

Apparently, anytime you do a search through GoodSearch.com, a penny goes to the charity of your choice. It sounds like a good idea and it has been written up in several respectable periodicals, so I'm considering trying it, but my cautious nature causes me to pause and ask:

    Is there any catch?
    What's the downside?
If I use it, will I end up with some weird spyware in my computer?
How on earth do they get the money to send to the charity?

I have been using GoodSearch for a couple of months. It is a legitimate service and a portion of the proceeds (50%) do go to the charity you select.

I sometimes find that the search results aren't as good as I tend to get with Google or Ask.com (GoodSearch uses the Yahoo engine) but it does fine and I use it as my primary search most of the time.

Here are some articles about GoodSearch:

    CNNMoney.com

    USAToday.com

As for your other questions, the GoodSearch FAQ covers "How it works" and etc. quite well.

one thing comes to mind: clickfraud, people (with good intention) will try to raise money for their charities by performig unnecessary searches and clicking on adverts with no interest in the product.

Yup, that's the nature of the beast in this new marketing world, but who actually clicks on ads that you see on websites in order to buy the product? Normally, when you click on ads, tons of popups come up anyways.

The non for profit organization that I visit a ton uses Goodsearch to raise funds. I love it, and I will use it as long as I can!
