  • What's your first rule on money?

Mine is, "It's not about the money".

I only think it's important to establish that up front because... everything else that comes after it IS about the money.

But of course, nothing is set in stone so, what's YOUR first rule on money?

err umm, a rule? that would be helpful wouldn't it?

    I have a couple...but wish I had a good one before I had money.

My number one rule is always save 10% of all you make and put it away and never touch it!!

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the title of the thread was:

          LIVE BELOW YOUR MEANS

So I guess that would be mine.

          * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
          * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

Money is a tool--it can buy many things, but love and happiness are not among them.

Like ambition, money is a good servant but a bad master.

Think of your future- a spinoff of "Pay yourself first".

My next would be, "Do I REALLY need it?"

                  My first rule of finance

Understand the world of finance: nothing can replace knowledge – and fortunately saving, investing and finance is pretty straightforward if we get the complete picture once. Given that the subject has huge impact on our finances, and that it surrounds us so much every day, learning about it (easily) is worth doing. Get the facts and not just sound bites, opinions and sales pitches – get informed yourself!

The first rule about money is you do not talk about money. The second rule is you DO NOT talk about money (movie reference).

Seriously, live below your means is the basis of it all for me.

I'm another in the "live below your means" camp.

                            never has money enough;
                            whoever loves wealth
is never satisfied with his income.

This happens to hit home, as I am in fact..well anyway...guess I aught to add it to the list.
