  • I got hooked by doggie stocking stuffers

It happened to me this weekend. I got hooked into buying something that I should have never bought. I was walking the isles and I ended up buying a "stocking" for our dog because while I was in the store isle I was feeling guilty that I hadn't got a Xmas present for him. (now is that stupid or what?)

I feel even worse because the stocking has all these little toys that look great like you are giving something special, but I know my dog will never use. He likes old socks. If I went and bought him a huge pile of socks, wore them once and then left them for him to steal, he'd be estatic. He'll ignore the gift toys in the stocking.

So what I came to realize is that the dog stocking gifts were not for my dog, but to relieve my guilt. I guess it was a good lesson for me to learn.

Terry I have to laugh. Hubby and my son are really into gifts for the dogs.

My 5 yr old had one of those school stores for xmas shopping. I gave him $10 because he wanted to buy for everyone in the house plus his grandparents. He comes home with all gifts for the dog and no one else. All sort of dogs bones etc. LOL

Hubby gets his parents dog plus his sister dogs gifts as well.

This is my first Christmas with a dog...and I'll admit he has a stocking. I bought two bone/treat type things (with coupons), and I'm going to the thrift store for two little stuffed animals. His favorite thing to do it rip out the stuffing, so why pay more than 50 cents for it? Total, I'm under $5, so I don't feel TOO guilty.

nope...guilty! We are planning on getting something for our puppy (we've always bought Xmas gifts for our pets...)
Now, if you want to hear something really really superflous, my mom used to give "birthday parties" for our dogs...she actually bought cake and ice cream and a pinata ....and invited the neighborhood kids (and their dogs) over...you can't imagine the mess in that house...

I guess she did it more for us than anything else...like, any excuse for a party, you know?
Still, it sent an awful message (money wise)...

Lord, make me into the person that my dog thinks I am. Amen

lol. I read that story and my first thought was, "what a fun idea!" But my wife would kill me if I ever tried to pull something like that, so I'm safe on not trying to throw doggie parties.

The pets are probably my biggest weakness. The bad part is that I know what they like and it isn't the expensive or cutesy stuff.
