  • Introduce Yourself

With the new forums, there needs to be a place where all the people coming here can introduce themselves if they'd like...so here it is. I guess I should start by telling a little about myself.

As you can see, I write most of the content for the site. I honed my money saving skills living in Japan (where I still am at the moment, but I'll be returning to the US this summer) where prices can be quite outrageous at times. I started writing articles for foreigners living in Japan on how to save money and it was picked up by several magazines out here...and the rest is history. That is how my finacial and money saving writing started.

I did teaching out here for a long time, but now survive doing eBay full time...this allows me to stay home and I've turned the one time hobby into a respectable income source. I have a auction article currently up that gives the basics for those who want to turn ebay into a business and should be adding quite a bit more over the next few months.

I'll leave it at that for now...if you hang out in the forums much you'll eventually learn more than you probably want to about me

    Re: Introduce Yourself

    Hi Jeffrey,

Glad to see the site up again! I think that it is a great resource.

I"m Theresa from Boston MA and a wahm to 3 small boys and married to a great guy. Money can be tight so I like to keep things under control. I like to bargain shop, keep a price book, am striving to be debt free by the end of this year. I am self-employed in telecommunications sales.

      Re: Introduce Yourself

I just posted a hello thread, but I'll ad a short intro here as well.

I'm Jen(nifer), SAHM to one 4 y/o DD. I do some parttime math tutoring (used to be a math teacher), but we're basically a one income family getting by in So. Cal. We're planning on homeschooling DD, so it doesn't look like we'll have tons of extra money rolling in from a second income any time soon, either. The tutoring is nice, though. I can be as busy as I want to be, which is good. Demand for a math tutor who can help with the hgiher math is high around here.

      Anyway, that's me.

        Re: Introduce Yourself

Allow myself to introduce... Err myself! I'm Nate and I do most of the webmaster related things on the site. I don't know much about saving money but it has always interested me as I work from home as well and money is always far from abundant. I'm from Anchorage Alaska but recently moved to Seattle Washington and have lived here for a couple years now working as a freelance web developer. I like funny movies/shows (in case you noticed from my opening line). Also really into all kinds of music.

          Re: Introduce Yourself

I'm new here. I have been "lurking around" a bit for a few weeks. I love to travel. I do it every chance I get. I've been to over 45 different countries and I hope to reach at least 100 in my lifetime. I'm always looking for ways to save money so that I can travel more as well as travel longer and that is how I stumbled in here. I don't think you'll see me writing much (unless it is travel related), but I thought I'd let everyone know that I am around reading.

            Re: Introduce Yourself

well I'm an old visitor to Jeff's and Nate's sites. I am starting to try to saving money, now that I work in the real world, and not in the US Navy where I spent the last 6 years. I guess I am trying to help out the community by starting my website that offfers open source or shareware programs to it's visitors. I just posted a program that is a good replacement for the Microsoft Office Suite, it's called Open Office and it is a free download. I'm working on the site, so be patient. well that's enough rambling from me

Welcome to the site. It is great to see more and more International visitors to the site as they can give a different perspective on a lot of things we in the US take for granted. I hope that the site can help and we can save you a bit more money.

                        CanadaRe: Introduce Yourself

I am in Alberta, Canada. I'm 23. I have a two year old DD. My DH is a call centre agent and I work part time at a grocery store as well as taking courses towards my Teacher's Assistant/Aide diploma.

DH and I are working opposite shifts so we incur no daycare costs. Now, since DD is an only child we are going to have to find some means of socializing her.

I'm frugal as all heck. DH likes to tell me he has to pry the money out of my cold fingers to get anything for himself. He doesn't have the drive I do to get this damn debt paid off and get back to school full time or more than one course every few months.

I don't have any hobbies anymore. No time outside work and getting a near decent night sleep.

Hee hee...it took us a while around here too, to get a decent night's sleep. For a while I thought I'd never get back to doing the things I enjoyed.

Yes Nate, we really do have 12 cats- this was not intentional
They were all either strays, ferals that we tamed, kittens of the strays that we had raised, or were dropped by "friends" who would say things like " you have so many cats, please won't you look after mine" yeah right, they can't handle one but we must handle a dozen
Anyway the alternative is the animal shelter, so we take them in-they are a pleasure- most of the time and yes we do spend a fortune in cat food

Kind of sounds like our house although we haven't gotten near that many...but then we're living in an apartment in Japan where space is limited and we'd have to move out if there were 12 cats here. Our current pet total is 1 rabbit (left by a friend), 3 cats (all stray kittens we found) and a dog (stray wandering in the middle of the road).
