  • Have any of you gone raw

    Hi!

I am simplifying so many areas of my life it is not even funny, I do love fruits and veggies and I am thinking, have any of you gone raw?
I am moving, so I am packing and I am considering just going raw and leaving all those pots and pans behind

    Any experiences?

p,s, I am doing my research....

Nope. Not me. We enjoy cooking too much. Food tastes so much better when flavors mingle and combine, enhanced by various seasonings and sauces. Some things taste even better the next day after they've sat in the fridge overnite.

I couldn't imagine eating everything raw. No grilled or roasted veggies. No soups. No veggie omelettes. Just a pile of raw vegetables. No thanks.

I love fruits and vegetables, and typically I do have many of them raw, or only lightly cooked. Consider, however... It's rather well accepted that the reason human brains are more developed than any other species of animal is that we figured out how to cook our food. Properly cooking our food enables our bodies to absorb more nutrients. Some nutrients are totally inaccessible to our digestive system without cooking.

Besides, I'm with DS -- I love cooking, and love the flavors that can be drawn out in the process that you simply can't get eating something raw.

        Hi,

I do thank you for your feedback, but I am actually looking for people who has done it.
I see that you instead are trying to convince me to not do it

Also, Raw food is a cuisine on its own, not just a pile of vegetables....
They have their own dressings, seasonings and full recipes. I have tried some and they are very yummy, they even have a few warm "soups" which are prepared raw. They even have brownies.

As per cooking food, there is research both ways, and cooking foods above 100 degrees actually kills nutrients. And some people have been cured of diseases by going raw,

I disagree raw food needs to be tasteless.

But again, my post is not "should I go raw"
My post is "have any of you done it"

Hope some of you can provide some insight ...without being attacked!

I eat raw fruits and veggies here and there. Not exclusively by any means, as I love cooking. But in the summer when the garden is ready, I enjoy raw tomatoes sliced with salt, raw cucumbers in sour cream, raw green peppers right off the plant, and of course a fresh salad made from things grown in the garden.

I am just starting my research, but I think I can already be a good raw food advocate.

Love of cooking should not be a deterrant. Some gourmet raw recipes require fun preparation and kitchen time. Raw food is different that just grabbing a fruit or a veggie and start nibbling at it!

I am sure all cooks have at least once tried a Mexican dish, A mediterranean dish, an Italian dish and even a Vegetarian dish that you enjoyed. I encourage you to try a good Raw food meal recipe. You might like it.

I just made a search: Easy and Healthy Raw Food Recipes | Raw Glow

Still looking for my frugal raw foodists...

@Radiance: back in the late 70s I dated a woman who only ate 'live' food which is similar to what you looking at - the difference is that she would 'cook' her rice at such a low temperature for such a long time that it would still sprout - ie was still alive. I have no idea how she did it or what it tasted like. I hope this gives you some help; I suggest keeping a pot and pan or 2 just for making sauces. If you can get to 'live' rice, then you can have sashimi along with sushi.

A quick google took me to a live food site that says that keeping the cooking temperature below 106 degs will allow the enzymes to remain active (and alive). I am not sure if this is your direction but take a look. If you know the rancher, raw beef is pretty damn tasty; I would never eat raw chicken; I would eat raw pork but I would have to do a lot of research first.

I grew up in Montana so the first time I went 'vegetarian' I assumed it just meant eating vegetables; I knew nothing about essential nutrients were and what I needed to do get them so it ended poorly.

Let me be the first on this thread to say that I LOATHE cooking. DH is far better at it than me, and enjoys it, so he handles most of our cooking.

Perhaps I should try this with you, Radiance! LOL

Much as I hate cooking, I enjoy cooked foods, though I'll eat certain foods raw such as oranges, apples, tomatoes, bananas, etc. Since I can't cook, my microwave has become my most often-used kitchen tool. You could get rid of everything except for that and a few microwave safe dishes.

I have personally gone raw and I found that my body responds much better to it and I have much more energy than cooked food. It's simple and tends to be a bit cheaper and great for your body. My only concern is that it is quite a shock to your body and if you haven't done it before, you might not last too long before you start to seriously crave cooked food again. I would recommend trying raw for sure, your body will thank you, but bring along your pots just in case it gets to be too much for you
