  • traveling on a plane

I'm horribly annoyed right now as my flight was cancelled today at 2.5 hours before the flight and I realized it as I was about to board the shuttle to the airport. I want to know how airlines can cancel a flight so last minute? But okay I guess because it wasn't full they decided to call it mechanical issues and rebook everyone. It really sucks.

That being said, recently I've noticed a REALLY rude trend of people. Before you'd get up and disembark in order of seating. Now people without luggage or with rush down the aisle and try to run and get ahead of everyone and get upset when you stand up and get your stuff and aren't running off the plane. I don't recall this during and before the pandemic this weird mass exodus. Anyone else notice this? What the hell is with the rudeness of just literally trying to trample people. They say stay seated until seatbelt sign is off but people are running down the aisle for what?

I think a lot of the cancellations are staffing issues. They're running on a skeleton crew so if even one person calls out sick, they're stuck and can't operate fully. They have no backup, no extra staff to call in or pull from somewhere else.

As for the rudeness, I don't think that's new although I do think it's gotten worse over time. Not just on airplanes but everywhere. People are stressed and overwhelmed and wound up. And nobody thinks about anybody but themselves. They act as if they are the only person in the world. I say this to my wife all the time. Just the other day, I was taking my mom back to her apartment. There were two women in her parking lot standing smack in the middle of the driving lane having a conversation totally blocking traffic. There was no way to get around them. And they seemed annoyed when I honked my horn to get them to move out of the way, as if I was the one doing something wrong. I see it at the supermarket too with the way people stop their carts blocking the whole aisle clueless to the fact that there are lots of other shoppers who need to get by.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

This is a personal pet peave of mine

I think the people at airports represent a pretty good cross section of society, so what you see there is what's going on everywhere.

And add in the fact that traveling is already a stressful experience. People are tired and frazzled, anxious to get where they're going, got up early, had to deal with parking and security, maybe while wrangling a kid or two. Then there are the folks who are racing to make a connecting flight in time because the first flight got delayed.

None of it is an excuse for rudeness but it's not hard to understand why many people aren't at their best when they're in that situation.

I'm really annoyed also that they believed I could make my connection in 1 hour. Clearing customs to boot and then tell me there are other flights. Other flights as i wrangle two kids solo and try to manage everything

The problem is literally decades in the making while carriers try to stay afloat and provide the lowest cost airfare and stay compliant with all the FAA and airport regs. Sorry you had a crappy travel day, LAL.

As for the staffing challenges, who wants to be a flight attendant anymore? Who wants to be a nurse anymore? Or make food for other people? It's all terrible and I'm not surprised one bit that it's finally starting to get real for the employers.

            History will judge the complicit.
