  • Why doesn't Hamas invest in education instead of weapons?

The USA donates $440 million to Gaza per year. This money is used for education, healthcare and other valuable things. (Hamas is banned from receiving any of this money because much of the Hamas budget goes towards blatant terrorism such as suicide bombers).

The literacy rate in Palestine is about the highest in the Arab world (close to 100%). The life expectancy is also one of the highest. All of my Palestinian friends are highly educated. I have never met a Palestinian who isn't well educated.

Hamas receives its money from places which sponsor terrorism (i.e., Muslim Brotherhood alliances). The purpose of this money is to promote Islamic fundamentalism. Hamas uses violence to force Palestinians in Gaza to comply with a more radical form of Islam than they would otherwise choose. Perhaps one could call this use of force a form of education?

You can say that again. But really you don't need to.

        Guys,

James here - I'm weighing in wearing my moderator hat with a gentle reminder.

We don't want to talk "politics" per say, its okay to discuss politics in the context of personal finance, but we want to keep things relatively on topic to avoid flame wars.

If this thread gets heated, its going to get locked.

I feel the same way about our military budget. What is it now...$700 millionish? Thats really neat. Follow the money people. We've been at war since I was born 34 years ago. Not one down year...follow the money. Big business in being in conflict. Sad when there is incentive to be at war.

Its great when things like science (medicine) and education are an after thought and their budget gets cut. Thats really neat. Its really beneficial to not find cures for diseases. Its really beneficial to not focus on education so more losers are among us. Just as long as we're fueling the war machine...thats all that matters.
