Ugh my mom is driving me nuts. She is not at all sheltering in place. She is still going out and doing ridiculous errands. It's so difficult when a lot of older people feel like they aren't old or at risk. Just wanted to vent.
There are still a number of people - thankfully a small number most places - who are ignoring the stay at home orders. Hopefully she's at least being careful, wearing a mask, keeping her distance from others, and washing her hands every chance she gets.
I don't know where you are but at least here in NJ, there's a pretty narrow list of places you can go anyway since hardly anything is open and the places that are open are limiting the number of customers they let in at a time and many are requiring customers to wear masks to enter.

I really am seeing some stir crazy people especially those whom filled their days with small errands etc like some elderly.
People are getting too much conflicting info and I dread the aftermath as some people seem to have misplaced their common sense. I saw a video with a doctor attacking 3 teens over not social distancing....... seriously was pushing kids around worth their professional reputation and perhaps even their job ?
i begrudgingly have stayed at home and not gone out ....but noticed daily the traffic ( we have a main road not far from house) is increasing and people are finding reasons to get out of the house.
I asked my DH if we could go to lunch at a local drive up / car hop type restaurant to support a local small business ..... the place had one or two customers we noticed on the way there the traffic was not as slow as it had been..... every parking lot at stores seem fairly full and although restaurant had only a few customers at first by the time we left the spots were full.
I guess I won't worry about their business making it through.
This is not a result of people not taking this seriously but those who feel some measures seem like overkill or not making sense.
I have seen a ton of yard care and landscaping crews out mowing, trimming etc.
The state closed many construction projects but I guess that only applies to bigger projects. see a bunch of roofers / remodel crews out was told by a neighbor was a good deal since they are slow due to this so i guess some are getting put off projects done. watche d agroup of about 15 outside a store to access Amazon lockers.
This state has by the data already reached the peak..... but they talk of extending or shutting more items down .... some places have either taken this long to come up with policies or plans but if they JUST started counting # entering and exiting stores or taking temperature it is like only keeping score in the 4TH QUARTER.
I just talked with a person that flew home from Indonesia yet the MAJOR airport never had any questions or concerns for ALMOST all flying in from overseas ...... but my state needed to shut golf courses and parks makes ZERO sense.
I see even more draconian measures in other states wanting to shut aisles off at stores that sell like home goods as well as food.
Michigan governor has said seeds and gardening supplies are NOT essential.
I read a very moving FB post recently that in a nut shell points out that some people are simply overlooking that for some an item we may not see as essential it might be more important to others. Perhaps that gallon of paint is keeping idle hands and minds busy and that keeps them sane and perhaps even sober. Perhaps gardening or crafts helps some with depression.
As i write this I heard some noise people yelling and see a small group across the way having an argument in a parking lot the sheriff cars just showed up but people are on edge and I am not going to be surprised as it develops into something worse.
Thanks to COVID though they seem to not report other bad NEWS like the shooting or another recent murder.
There are still car accidents just heard through a friend about a fatality crash but the news is too deep in Covid mask comparison coverage to bother.
Unless it is Covid related like the landlord that was killed and the body is missing......I guess there are no other deaths/ or crimes / any other news.
I have seen a ton of yard care and landscaping crews out mowing, trimming etc.
I don't believe they were among the businesses shut down, at least not here.

The ruling here was "non-essential" construction. So fixing your roof is essential. If your bathroom or kitchen was torn apart before this, they need to finish it. But you don't need to start a brand new project to build a new sun room, for example.
my state needed to shut golf courses and parks makes ZERO sense.
The problem with the parks and playgrounds is that people were ignoring the social distancing rules and still having large gatherings, playing touch football, etc.

The death rate from other causes that typically show up on the news is down sharply. Far less traffic so far fewer fatal accidents. Less crime overall with everyone holed up at home.

We had a big outdoor campfire with a few friends Saturday night. Kept our distance, out in the fresh air, still able to shoot the breeze, listen to music, roast weenies, and have a good time.
I'll take my chances with activities like this, very few cases in our county.
My parents are driving me nuts too. First it was persuading them to wrap up their snow-birding trip to AZ when this first hit -- I was worried about an interstate travel ban, and that they were far from healthcare. They're in their early 70's and they don't need to be traveling place to place during a pandemic and so I urged them to go home before things got worse. They begrudgingly wrapped up their trip.
Then once they were home they decided, you know, since their similarly-aged neighbors are holed up too, that they could get together speakeasy-style. No, not quite... Once they got the picture that this is indeed serious and the rules DO apply to them, then it became about all the little exceptions. Mom's mad she can't go to the park and do her walks -- with the 50 billion other people who have the same idea during a pandemic, and all the trails are now closed. My sister -- who is bored at home, thought it appropriate to take little "social distancing" trips to see my parents-- to drop them a care package full of TP and sanitizer, and talk to them while distancing outside on their front porch. NO, NO, NO. I chewed my sister out real good, then come to find out she did that **** again yesterday for Easter. Dad suffered a heart attack two years ago and mom hasn't been in perfect health, can we please be mindful that this is, indeed, real.
This is a concern many places - local infrastructure. Here in NJ, they've banned short term rentals and hotel stays and told folks who own shore homes to remain in their primary residences, not come down to quarantine at the shore. Why? Because the local hospitals don't have the capacity to handle a big influx of COVID patients. The last thing we need is a bunch of New Yorkers leaving the city and driving down to their shore homes already unknowingly infected and spreading it around where the local healthcare system is sparse.

Same thing in Minnesota. The weather is permitting for families to go up to their lake cabins and favorite recreational spots "Up North" now. There's no healthcare infrastructure up there, and is home to many of the state's elder residents. Authorities are urging people who live in Southern Minnesota/Twin Cities to stay there.
