  • Darci's Savings Challenge

    Hi all!

I have been lurking and savings, and well, I'd like to join for the encouragement. I actually have 2 challenges going. One is the family savings goal of $50 a week with our family money and one as a personal challenge with my WAM (walking around money) of $14 weekly. So far in the family account I have $300 and $90 in the other.

Hmmmm...going to have to think of a name for "mine" for simplificaton. Family and PC (personal challenge) I guess.

Just to note that the family account gets the $100 bi-weekly and the PC is weekly.

Looking forward to saving with you!

I made this weeks deposits so I'm staying on track

Deedee~ I think the PC is going to be for travel and the family will partly fund gifts and emergency fund. A good mix of want and need.

        Thanks for the warm welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome I find it amazing that I have $400 saved that I normally would have just spent and it was relatively painless!

I transferred the 14 for the PC and the 100 for the b1-weekly.

On another note, I just signed up for the deposit the difference through my bank since they are willing to match for the first 90 days. i can't pass up the free money even if the interest is negligible.

Congrats on your deposit and finding another way to earn money for your savings. I haven't heard about the deposit the difference program, but I'll make a note to check and see if any banks have promotions.

Paid the 100 biweekly and the 14 PC. I also paid last weeks but forgot to post. For some reason it seems a little tougher the last few weeks. Maybe the excitement of the new challenge is gone? No matter, I will continue plugging along.

The excitement does wear off, but I try to motivate myself by focusing on my goals, where my savings will be at the end of the year, etc. Maybe looking up the place(s) you plan to travel will be a good motivation. The good news is that you've managed to stick with the challenge, so that's great.

                              I added the $100 bi-weekly and the $14 PC.

I LIKE the savings, it's just lost some of the shine. I'm not obsessing about it but just doing it and that's a good thing. I've looked at the last few months and have found that even though I'm putting away $256 a month I'm not missing out on anything or feeling deprived. I am content. So, sadly I guess that means I was just wasting the $ before. So, the good and the bad of things. I'm just going to focus on that when the year is up I will have saved over 3K!!
