  • 52 Week Saving Challenge - My Shares

Ok - I am completely inspired by this challenge & love the idea of trying to save the "highest" amount each week. We already budget everything (and I mean everything) carefully (but while still having fun) and are on track to be mortgage free in June 2014.

I want to use this challenge to challenge myself into saving $1300 by Dec 2013 to put towards shares - as this is where we want to start investing & saving for kids education (I understand it's considerably cheaper we we live than US but still significant).

I am aiming to reach 1-2 of the savings amounts each week to do this - with the idea that any weeks that I save (for example) $52 then the rest of that week's saving goes to a second amount.

I have now been doing this for 10 days and saved $10 the first week (from grocery savings) and $52 so far this week (online survey payout & other savings). I am selling things on our country's equivalent of Ebay, recording all savings from our budget & picking up extra survey work where possible.

Looking forward to see how we go!

All done - and onto the second!!!

        Thanks for the welcome deedee.

Well thought I should update. I did a big sort out and sold a few bigger things including our change table. This meant that I reached my goal of $1000 and bought a parcel of shares with it.

This has given me the motivation to list a whole pile more things on Trade Me (NZ's ebay) and I have taken over part of a bedroom to collect & sort everything. It's amazing how much I need to list - it will take me a number of weeks to list everything (if not months)!

New goal is to cover camping set up expenses (going for the first time Summer 2014) & Christmas presents and so far, using the Yatzhee method I have crossed off from $43-$52 and a few smaller values.

I am aware, however, that once I've sold off the bulk of our "stuff" it will get a lot harder & I will need to get a lot more creative....so my aim is to spend 15-60mins per day online getting ideas and hints that will save us money (and entering competitions etc).

Way to go on already meeting one of your goals. I sold a couple of items on Ebay in the past, and I need to get motivated and start doing that again. It's a great idea for extra money and we definitely need to declutter.

You know you are really saving a lot, as I also tried the same but it was hard for me to cut down my expenses and save but one of my friend told me to take a insurance policy as there are many with lower investment and higher returns.
