Time to Prepare

September 9th, 2018 at 12:26 PM by Creditcardfree

Florence is heading our way. Prayers appreciated for us and all in the final path.

We will spend the next couple days stocking up for the loss of power. More batteries, more water and non perishable foods. I think it was last year that I saw a young woman buying peanut butter, bread and apples that appeared to be for the hurricane. I actually thought that was pretty simple and inexpensive compared to canned foods that often are heated. Yes, apples can perish, but you likely...

Tips fom experts on how to shop on a budget

September 9th, 2018 at 12:23 PM by Maria Palmer

How do you go about shopping on a budget? We all want the best things in life, and high fashion is so tempting. I have a few theories about it.

I know I'm not the first person wondering how to be stylish while not spending a lot. I found some great tips and inspiration in the new book from Hannah Orenstein, Editor at Elite Daily called Playing with Matches (released on June 26, 2018).

One of her tips were:

“I think the trick to not blowing your money on fashion is...

Time Off = HA!

September 8th, 2018 at 03:40 PM by Monkey Mama

I know that as I get time and space from my work situation, it will all get better. I am hoping next week feels like a lot of time compared to this "all encompassing" work situation. Unfortunately, I still think it's going to be "quite encompassing." As is job searching.

A couple of people (old co-worker and a client) have really encouraged me to take some time off in between jobs. I was leaning more towards that way, but just had too many really good opportunities last...

2 flat cash flow analysis-prior to poss sale

September 8th, 2018 at 03:27 PM by Rachael

Hi all

Lookings like I can list the 2 flat around $134900.. sell between $125-130. I owe $11800 on it.

These are the #s (attached)

It will need a new roof at some point and it was a nightmare to fix up. I do not think I want it anymore and would prefer to invest the cash.

Below is my rental budget WITHOUT the 2 flat. With the 2 flat it goes up approx $1000

Will It Ever End??

September 8th, 2018 at 01:01 PM by Monkey Mama

I suppose I am 80%-ish done with work. Bear with me.

Yesterday was my official last day. & was probably at least two more days than I initially had planned. UGH!

I am going back Monday. I think I just needed to space it out a bit for my sanity. It's part that, and part unemployment/gas savings. (Need to pinch pennies where I can). I have two interviews Monday, and my office is right in between. It will be a good place to regroup. It's kind of moot because everyone...

Day 104

September 8th, 2018 at 09:12 AM by Tina

It's true: you can get used to anything, including eating the same thing every day. I have been eating pumpkin for the last week and I'm still enjoying it.

Bought 2 bread rolls $1.38, and 6 brown bananas $1.74.

frustrated and making me poor

September 8th, 2018 at 06:45 AM by mumof2

So over the last couple of months we have spend a couple thousand dollars on specialists to try find out what is going on with my health. The first one said it was vestibular migraines...so my ENT sent me for the balance tests...they are saying there is no vestibular issues...I have an appointment with a neurologist in nov not sure what they think they will find as there is nothing showing up on the MRI...so looks like all that I have done in the last couple months has resulted...

Two Week Meal Plan

September 7th, 2018 at 09:04 PM by Lucky Robin

I made up another two week meal plan to go with my two week shopping plan. I also made my plan based on what I have on hand and what is available in the garden right now. There is a good chicken sale this week so we will be having a lot of chicken stir-fries. There is also shrimp and cod on sale and pot roasts. I will buy two extra for later in the month as I can't beat $3.99/lb on those.

Day One:
Beef Pot Roast
Baked Potatoes
Roasted Zucchini
Fresh Plums (from the garden)

Day...

Payday Report for 9/7/18

September 7th, 2018 at 08:54 PM by Lucky Robin

This paycheck had the real numbers on it of what the base pay will be. No overtime. So after I get the next one I will know for sure how much income there is in a month. I am hoping they are splitting the insurances 50/50 and not taking it all out of one paycheck. If so, then we'll be bringing home more than I thought, but it still won't compare to all that overtime. Hopefully in October there will be OT again.

$319.93 Tithe
_500.00 Utilities
_400.00 Grocery Envelope
_400.00...

Free Oil Change

September 7th, 2018 at 11:49 AM by CB in the City

It took about two hours out of my day, but I got my free oil change yesterday. It was in Chicago, but not too far into Chicago. It came out to be just under $60, so I'll get the full reimbursement.

I also got a call to do another restaurant shop this evening, this time locally. It will only reimburse me, so BFF will have to buy her own, but she was probably counting on that anyway.

BFF will arrive sometime this morning. I have a lot of tidying up to do. I made a pot...

Day 103

September 7th, 2018 at 09:44 AM by Tina

For some reason I had difficulty logging in to the blog, it kept sending me to the forums.

A local yarn store is closing down at the end of the month, but so far I have resisted going to bag bargains. There are 2 better stores remaining.

Bought 2 cans of baked beans at 70 cents each.

Yesterday at the thrift store I spotted a nice top but decided I didn't really need it. I thought about it last night and went back this afternoon to have another look, but it was gone....

Still Waiting on Insurance Cards

September 7th, 2018 at 05:39 AM by Lucky Robin

I have never had an insurance company so slow to send out cards before. Every other insurance we've ever had the cards have come the week before they were to become active. DH was able to print out something that would do for the short term from the website and then he reordered cards in case they got lost in the mail.

We've had two doctor's appointments so far this week. DD had her six month check up with the opthamologist to check her eye pressure and make sure there was...

Bored

September 7th, 2018 at 04:40 AM by mumof2

Well being sick on top of a chronic illness has been extremely boring...to sick to do anything..so glad we have netflix...but on the upside still not spending other than groceries...which my hubby usually does.

I have our savings up over $1000 but only updating my blog at end of month as it changes all the time..so feeling good about that...set it up that I have $100 a month going directly into my retirement fund (super as we call it) every bit helps. only have a couple more...

vacation planning

September 6th, 2018 at 07:00 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

I consider myself somewhat savvy with vacation planning. I typically can find good deals on flights, hotels, and just stuff in general for trips. But we've decided to go to WDW next August 2019 and I'm overwhelemed. I'm even stupid to be honest.

So I might as well write here the step wise intensive planning I'm doing. Somehow even international travel seems easier than WDW.

I'm starting with knowing I want to go the last week of August. It's still a month too early for...

Repairs Update & More

September 6th, 2018 at 01:24 PM by Creditcardfree

The carpet repair is happening right now at our home. The estimate was $200. Ironically, this is what we were paid by our landlord to show the house to two potential renters a couple weeks ago. So it is sort of like we were given the money for this repair. Easy come, easy go.

Update, the actual charge for carpet repair was $175.

Our refrigerator was repaired yesterday for $125. It needed freon. There were two leaks. I asked why a four year old fridge would leak. Apparently...

The Longest Week...

September 6th, 2018 at 01:07 PM by Monkey Mama

Having had like the worst year of my life, and more challenges than I ever remember... I was so utterly unprepared for how HARD this week would be. WOW!

I really thought that Tuesday would be my hump day. Wanted to cross off my last big project at work and I also had a really big job interview. All of that went well. Phew!

Wednesday, I had a phone interview. So now I have a second interview with them next week. (They wanted to do it today!) & I have third interview...

More Medical Stuff

September 6th, 2018 at 11:23 AM by CB in the City

I went to the ophthalmologist yesterday, which cost me another $50, but he had nothing but good news for me. My retina is clear of any damage, and he thinks the symptoms I experienced were due to normal aging. But if anything does go wrong, I am now set up with an ophthalmologist in my group.

At the same facility, I was able to get my x-rays done. Results came quickly. Of course they are in medical-ese, so I'm not sure how bad it is, but my GP asked me to set up a consult...

September 6th, 2018 at 02:29 AM by mumof2

Well have been sick all week so haven't been anywhere except the doctors and since we are on free scripts for the rest of the year this one doesn't cost us..so haven't spent money on anything but groceries...except today when I just ordered my daughter a christmas present (although that is from our present account)

Finally have my ICE account back to $2000 so now going to work on our savings for a home deposit and hopefully nothing else comes up that is to expensive. Still working...
