Sold Two Couches

September 12th, 2018 at 05:16 PM by Creditcardfree

It's the final day or two before the storm hits our area, and I just sold two couches! These were hand me downs from my parents, but I sold them as a set for $150. Two young ladies seemed quite happy to have picked them up. I'm super pleased too, since they were in our garage...and that meant my husband was parking in the driveway. We were about to bring them back inside in to avoid any water damage from the storm. Now we don't have to. Very happy about this unexpected sale in...

Working on Getting the Money In

September 12th, 2018 at 12:47 PM by CB in the City

I made another sale on eBay -- $8. I used up the last of my packing material to box it up, so I will have to buy bubble wrap today. There is another sale I'm awaiting payment on. That will be $15.

It was a real pain getting this stuff ready to sell, but I guess it was worth it!

No spending yesterday.

I signed up for a mystery shop which will pay $35. However, once I downloaded the guidelines I saw that it was quite complicated, requiring online searching and screenshots,...

Day 108

September 12th, 2018 at 09:24 AM by Tina

So far my $20 challenge has been going well. If things keep going well I can see myself continuing this until my EF reaches the goal. I'm still planning to go to India in December, so will be taking a 4 week break, but the money for it will come from my travel fund.

Daughter got a job!

September 12th, 2018 at 12:06 AM by Steve

Our daughter got a job today! She graduated from college in May and we all agree that she could time some time off to decompress from the whole college experience. Honestly, having her back home really doesn't cost us much and is actually tremendously cheaper than having her in college so money wasn't an issue. And she hasn't just been sitting around playing video games all day as she is a supervisor for an online crisis support hotline, but that's a volunteer position. She has...

eBay Sale

September 11th, 2018 at 03:19 PM by CB in the City

My buyer in Poland paid me through PayPal. After withdrawing the postage, I cleared $244. However, at his request I double-boxed the package, which meant I had to add another $11 in postage. That's okay. It was really a great sale for me! I bought the figurine at a garage sale and I doubt that I paid more than a dollar or so.

This will certainly ease things up next month. Just to explain, I add the extra money I make each month to next month's variables budget. Easier...

The Calm Before the Storm

September 11th, 2018 at 11:09 AM by Laura

Over the last couple of days I could comment but not log in. I know someone else mentioned having this issue recently. Anyhow, it is working now.

This past two weeks has been a roller coaster. Grandma did not adjust to the assisted living and is in a hospital awaiting a permanent placement. The dementia is getting a lot worse. I hope they find a placement asap. It is so sad and frustrating.

My mom's health is declining as well, but I will hold those details for a future post.

My...

Day 107

September 11th, 2018 at 09:11 AM by Tina

I was walking down the street when the wind blew a $20 note past me. I can't run much but I sure scuttled halfway down the road to catch it. Another 20 bucks for my EF.

Got the Job!

September 11th, 2018 at 03:58 AM by Monkey Mama

Today was so totally crazy, because that's the theme this year!

I missed the call because new employer totally faked me out (said they were interviewing people tomorrow, though I *knew* I got the job). So I didn't look at my phone and missed the acceptance by several hours. DOH! Will finalize details tomorrow.

Anyway, I think I squeaked by. Technically today was my last day at old job (though I only stopped by for like an hour). & I got a new job before I was unemployed....

Great Weekend

September 10th, 2018 at 09:35 PM by CB in the City

Well, BFF went home this morning after a great weekend. And my day in Shipshewana with other friends was fantastic.

I spent $44 on food, $30 on gas, and $16 on a memento. Also, my I-PASS replenished again, for $40. I bought a little gift for my granddaughter for $4. When all is said and done, that is not too bad for a great weekend, but this was the wrong month for it to happen. My variables are at 122%. And still more than two weeks to go. That still includes my medical...

Easy Come, Easy Go & 401K Questions

September 10th, 2018 at 07:11 PM by klarose

I received multiple checks today that I had been waiting on so I went ahead and made a trip to town to deposit and pay some bills.

I paid the mortgage, our final real estate tax installment, my estimated self employment income tax for the year, and paid the rest towards the credit cards. Whew, it is crazy when several thousand go in and out in one day. But it feels good to tick some bills off.

Husband's first day at his new job is today. He was feeling quite sad about leaving...

Beautiful Weather

September 10th, 2018 at 02:35 PM by DK62565

After a few weeks of extreme heat and then a couple of days of rainy weather, we have gotten a nice break of lovely weather. It is around normal temps 70s and the sun is out.

It was nice to see so many of the neighbors out working in their yards yesterday due to the incredible weather.

DH mowed after he picked up sticks and branches. We had some rain and some wind a couple of days before. I started cutting herbs to wash and dry them. It takes awhile to let them air dry,...

Lots to Report

September 9th, 2018 at 09:21 PM by My English Castle

Hmm--It's been a week or so since last I blogged, and what a busy week it's been. DH had more interviews, but has taken the contract at his former employer that he left about 20 months ago. It's a great hourly rate, and honestly, he really likes it there. We think he starts on Wednesday after all the checks. Glad we got his drug test in before his surgery.

So yes, he's also had ear surgery. Last Thursday we drove to a hospital about an hour west of us at (ugh) 4:30 a.m....

Time to Prepare

September 9th, 2018 at 12:26 PM by Creditcardfree

Florence is heading our way. Prayers appreciated for us and all in the final path.

We will spend the next couple days stocking up for the loss of power. More batteries, more water and non perishable foods. I think it was last year that I saw a young woman buying peanut butter, bread and apples that appeared to be for the hurricane. I actually thought that was pretty simple and inexpensive compared to canned foods that often are heated. Yes, apples can perish, but you likely...
