Day 130

October 4th, 2018 at 08:44 AM by Tina

The thrift store had some foam rubber play mats so I grabbed them to use as blocking mats. Price $2.50 which is really good when the cost of them new is $30.

I Made It

October 4th, 2018 at 02:46 AM by Lucky Robin

I made it through my super long day of three appointments, but the minute I got home from the last one around four o'clock I put on my nightgown and curled up in bed. DS asked if I was going to sleep and I said no, I was just done with clothes for the day. There is comfort in my big, comfy nightie and since I had nothing left to do for the day, other than make dinner, it was good.

I managed to write 4500 words last night and about 1000 so far today, though I hope to get another...

Quick life update

October 3rd, 2018 at 09:29 PM by ceejay74

Wow, I haven't blogged properly for months! Life is just busy, I guess. Some highlights:

- Social life is good. Making/keeping/deepening friendships is a LOT of work, but I'm loving hanging out with folks when I can corral them. Next week I'm going to Wisconsin to see my fave band and my Canadian friend!

- AS's big freelance job is still chugging along; she's invoiced for about $8K of the possible $32K. They pay weekly for however many hours she worked the previous week,...

Immunotherapy

October 3rd, 2018 at 08:45 PM by Thriftorama

Hi all. I figured it was time to check in.

I was pretty depressed this summer, with all the setbacks and hospitalizations, but life has settled into something pretty close to good.

I've had 4 of the immunotherapy infusions (yervoy/Opdivo. You've probably seen commercials, and the developers just won a Nobel prize). And at least on the outside, it's changed my life. I feel normal. as in, not sick. I've been able to basically live my life like I did before I had cancer. Well,...

Debt Update as of 9/28/18

October 3rd, 2018 at 08:31 PM by Banker Gurl

$853.84 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!!

Things are (kind of) settling down here. We have our new renter into Rental #1 so that is good news. I am a little worried that she is going to be a problem as she is a little "floopy". I think that is a word from Phoebe on Friends...but you get the idea...lol. But she has made 2 of the 3 payments on her deposit, and paid October rent so hopefully she will be good. We (and by we I me MO) did a lot of minor repairs and painting to...

Catching Up

October 3rd, 2018 at 06:32 PM by Wink

The last few weeks have been so busy. My nephew who had the stroke is now in inpatient rehab and is working hard on regaining the use of his right side. He is working so hard, and has a great attitude, but it's very hard. I go to see him as often as I can to provide him with support and help him with his exercises. They really encourage family members to be involved. In addition, his mother (my sister in law) is having health issues so my poor brother is just stretched way too...

Spending Forecast

October 3rd, 2018 at 02:24 PM by klarose

Today I am feeling the squeeze with the budget. Which is crazy since our income increased, and I was just reassuring husband that is was fine, lol.

We have all our needs met, we are putting back money every week. We aren't struggling. But I looked at the forecast for the next several months and realized that I have already planned out all my spending for the next 7 weeks. 3 weeks for the blinds and bathroom accessories, 2 weeks for a new car battery, 2 weeks for a fun item...

Yesterday's Activities

October 3rd, 2018 at 12:52 PM by CB in the City

I caught up on my sleep and I feel much better.

My appointment with the SHIP counselor went well -- she was a fanatastic lady. Interestingly enough, she herself is on an Advantage plan, and she has been through several surgeries herself. We talked about a lot of things, but the bottom line is that switching to original Medicare may very well put me at risk for having no Medigap plan, and therefore paying 20% for most services. Also, it looks like every Part D plan is more...

Total Spending for the month = $1600.05

WATER & GAS BILL = $393.60

HOUSEHOLD & GARDEN = $215.15

ENTERTAINMENT = $349.59 , high, very high. Celebrated few birthdays and got far too much takeaway food.

Used Up FSA $ and Probably Maxed Deductible

October 3rd, 2018 at 03:06 AM by Laura

A few days ago I was wondering if I'd have to get creative to not lose the FSA money other than the $500 that rolls over to the next plan year (starting in November for us.)

Around 8:30 this morning I got a call which told me it wouldn't be an issue.

My DH drove himself to the ER with a racing heart and chest pains. By the time I got there it was confirmed that it was AFIB symptoms.

His heart rate was 180+, his bp was high, and he was having constant chest pains.

After...

And on and on and on

October 3rd, 2018 at 01:06 AM by Lucky Robin

I am so wiped out. I really need to go the the doctor for myself, but that is not to be. Tomorrow is going to be a pretty awful day. DD has an appointment at 8 a.m., so no sleeping in. Mom has an appointment at 10:40 and then another one at 2:30 and at some point I have to squeeze in a run to the chiropractor's office. I will be sitting in waiting room chairs far too much tomorrow.

This paragraph is probably TMI, but I don't care.
You can skip to the next one. Thursday...

October 1
$23 Target (Groceries)
$10 Gymnastics
$ 0 Movies (Free Screening)
Dinner: Pasta with chickpeas and garlic sauce

MM(15) is just now returning to gymnastics post broken toe.

We stopped by Target (right next to gymnastics) to pick up some face wash (for the teenager), some hair ties, and toilet paper. I always just throw this household type stuff in our "grocery" category. (I don't remember the last time I bought toilet paper, but we were dangerously low; MH...

Everyday Stuff

October 2nd, 2018 at 01:35 PM by CB in the City

I did three loads of laundry yesterday, spending $4.50, but that was my only spending.

I went to Planet Fitness in the evening and had a piece of pizza for dinner. (I worked out, too!)

I mailed my last eBay item. Probably my last. There is one item still listed. It put it up as "Buy It Now" and it still has two weeks to go, but though it has a number of views, there are no watchers.

I boxed up everything else and it's ready to go down for the garage sale.

I'm planning...

October Reset

October 2nd, 2018 at 12:52 PM by Monkey Mama

I am doing a major financial reset with my pay cut. I'd say all but the last couple of years and our two-ish years of DINK living (Dual Income No Kids), other than those years we have always been uber frugal. I mean like I was saving 80% of my income out of college because I couldn't figure out how to afford the roof over my head otherwise. & we dropped our income in half to have kids, so just more of the same (though less extreme). On one hand, I would like to just coast this...

Electricity Costs October 1

October 2nd, 2018 at 12:26 PM by Monkey Mama

Yesterday I drove 66 electric miles. That was around 50 miles with my (new) commute and dropping off MM at school. The rest was city driving; running errands and dropping off MM at gymnastic class.

I could have done all electric regardless, but it was nice to have the fast charge in between. (If I got home from work and plugged in for a couple of hours on the slow charger, I would have barely squeaked by with enough miles for evening errands).

Total electric fuel costs...

Still here! Retirement benchmarks?

October 2nd, 2018 at 11:40 AM by guppy

Couldn't believe my log on still worked!

My husband and I are 34 and 36 now with two girls. Wow, time flies.

Just wondering what everyone is using as retirement benchmarks. We hit 1.5x annual income in retirement by our average age of 35 but I'm wondering what our benchmark should be by 40?

I KNOW I KNOW, everyone's different, but I'm wondering what rule of thumb some of you have used on here?

Thanks so much!! So glad my account still works!!
