Good Living

Big Sigh

December 19th, 2018 at 04:30 PM by Good Living

This has been a very busy semester. I'm glad it's almost over.

We just completed buying out my sisters of our Dad's cabin. It got a bit sticky towards the end but it's done. I've got a few days left of work before a couple of weeks time off. We've figured out the schedule which includes a week at the cabin but a couple of days in a hotel for swimming and etc. We're going to spend some time with my sister. It will be good to relax.

I also got some unpleasant news, recent...

Bit of Spending

December 19th, 2018 at 03:45 PM by CB in the City

I bought a $40 gift card for DS & DIL's favorite Chinese restaurant. I spent $3 at McDonald's for a snack for GS2 after school and before cooking class. (Should have remembered to bring a snack, but I didn't.) I spent $11 at Goodwill. $7 of it was for a set of 7 new placemats. They coordinate with my tablecloth and they are in a gingko pattern, which is a favorite of mine. I was going to give them to DIL, but I'm on the fence -- not sure if they are her taste, and I love them!...

Day 206

December 19th, 2018 at 08:07 AM by Tina

I am still having problems getting my visa. I was sent a request to fill out yet another form and pay a further nzd160.00. I still don't know if I'll get it before New Year, if it doesn't arrive before then I will have to cancel the trip. I keep repeating the Serenity Prayer to myself, which is useful when dealing with all things Indian.

Day 49 YOUF

December 19th, 2018 at 04:08 AM by Cheryl B.

I have an upper respiratory infection. I have asthma so I always get a bit nervous. I cancelled physical therapy appointments for the week. My husband bought chicken soup (we already had some canned, which I had a can for lunch) and some popsicles of real fruit. I chose raspberry. I took it easy all day. I did manage to put the dishes away and reload. I washed the coffee pot since I didn't think we would have enough dishes to run the dishwasher. I generally run it every...

Just some beans and veggies, with some cheese and butter. & I can imagine infinite ways to customize to one's taste and/or what is on hand.

MM(15) and I made for dinner tonight. I wanted to share while I Was thinking about it.

Another Goal Complete!

December 18th, 2018 at 03:40 PM by klarose

I had $95 left over from my paycheck today after paying all bills and putting back money for next week's expenses. I sent that extra to the credit cards, which brought my total debt payoff for the year to $5,066!

This completes my 3rd 2018 goal!

That will be the last goal I finish this year. But I am still hoping to send some money to the Roth IRA before the April deadline.

This and That

December 18th, 2018 at 01:01 PM by CB in the City

No more spending yesterday after the doctor visit, other than $1.50 for a load of laundry.

I got payment from one of the mystery shop companies, and two more should be coming in shortly.

I'll be picking up GS2 after school and taking him to his cooking class. His class is near Goodwill, so I usually look through GW while he is in class. It isn't my favorite GW -- it's poorly managed (messy) and overpriced -- but every once in a while I still find a treasure.

My leftovers...

Day 48 YOUF

December 18th, 2018 at 06:42 AM by Cheryl B.

I changed my sheets today, but spent the rest of the morning working on getting my MAC to print. It stopped when we switched internet providers. I was on the phone with apple for a bit and eventually figured out on my own how to get the printer to print.

I also worked in our greenhouse, picking tomatoes and cutting the tomato plants out. Three of our four chickens were in the greenhouse with me having a great time eating and scratching for bugs.

My husband was late getting...

Day 2

December 18th, 2018 at 05:15 AM by mumof2

Well I have really been thinking of our finances lately and what we can do better in 2019...both hubby and I have had a crap year healthwise which wiped out our savings and we have to add in extra health things for next year but we do that now we should be able to write up goals and stick to them and reach the goals we set.

I'm not one that makes resolutions but I do set goals and make them achievable...also looking at things we can do while my friend is over here from the states...

The Money Arrived

December 18th, 2018 at 01:18 AM by Lucky Robin

The money made it safely back to our checking account from the PayPal hack. I am still pretty annoyed with PayPal for letting this happen in the first place. Now I can go ahead and write out the rest of the bills, the tithe, and fund the funds I need to fund from Friday's paycheck. I held off to be sure the money would come through.

I am checking the account daily for a while just to be sure everything is safe. I hate this feeling of violation. We are so careful with our...

Ortho Doctor

December 17th, 2018 at 07:59 PM by CB in the City

I went to the orthopedic doctor this morning. The appointment was at 9:30 and I didn't get out again until 12. Most of the time was spent waiting, of course. They took more x-rays, and I scheduled my hip replacement surgery officially for April 2.

They gave me a ton of stuff to read.

Afterwards, I went to the gym and then got gas for $19. Cheapest fill-up I've had in a LONG time!

The copay at the doctor's was $50.

That took variables to 101%, and I have a week and...

Saving on Wrapping Paper

December 17th, 2018 at 06:21 PM by Milly

I am baffled by wrapping paper.

Why do people fret over it, then literally throw it away? Talk about throwing away your money!

Why does it cost so much only to run out so fast?

How did our culture get to the point where we are praised for, and socially expected to buy these fancy paper shells to cover our gifts? Wouldn’t you rather the value of the present be put into the part you keep?

This is one cultural ritual that I’m just not into. If I buy wrapping...

We Owe The Government

December 17th, 2018 at 05:41 PM by Creditcardfree

I knew this was coming. My daughter received Post 911 GI Bill benefits for her tuition and fees this year. She originally signed up for 18 credit hours, then added one hour, which then she eventually dropped. Actually, that one extra credit hour may not have been the same class, but tuition wise it is the same.

The VA, who provides this benefit, is a little slow to catch up to the changes. They originally paid benefits for 18 credits in August, which was perfect and what we...

Donated Bing Rewards

December 17th, 2018 at 01:07 PM by Trying to Get Ahead

So far in 2018, I earned $35 worth of Walmart gift cards just by using the search engine and doing the challenges.

My ladies' group at church adopted a family and my contribution was the stack of gift cards.
