Planning for Future Medical Expense

January 8th, 2020 at 09:45 AM by Lucky Robin

I got nothing done today except make dinner and go to the chiropractor. I just don't have the energy yet and I think I will have to take it easy for a few more days. We aren't out of clothes yet and the towels can wait another day to be folded. We'll survive. I just wish I wasn't so cold. Even under an electric blanket turned up to high and with a space heater going in my room, my hands and feet are like ice cubes.

Tomorrow I have to take DD to physical therapy or I wouldn't...

2020 Goals

January 7th, 2020 at 11:07 PM by Life Balance

I don’t know why but I didn’t feel as eager as I usually do to draft my goals this year. But I know how powerful it is to have them so I am doing it now.

(1) Get EF back to 3 months’ basic expenses
(2) Adopt a permanent health-enhancing habit each month
(3) Renew my professional certification by the September due date
(4) Pay no CC interest or fees
(5) Spend time with each kid to encourage his current area of growth
(6) Complete identified home maintenance

It will...

2019: CJ's year in review

January 7th, 2020 at 10:43 PM by ceejay74

Only now do I look to my sidebar and realize that I put a spot to track 2019 achievements as they happened! Well, that went nowhere, but I did achieve quite a bit this year, so hopefully I can remember all the highlights without having kept track.

These were my "intentions" for 2019:
- Make healthy choices.
- Deepen friendships.
- Do creative things.
- Chase pleasure.
- Build my career.
- Be flexible when life throws things at me.

I'll start with "Do creative...

2019 spending

January 7th, 2020 at 07:25 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

Okay so it's been bad year for spending.

I was perusing our spending. Big budget categories

$25k traveling - big was the WDW trip that was about $10k. Seriously awesome though and I got a christmas card photo out of it. This year I'm not sure we are going to spend less I'm feeling around $20k I usually predict.

$15k dog. Seriously unexpected. He had surgery for $6k, then all his visits to vet with every other week blood measurements. Then his $500/month medications....

The Table

January 7th, 2020 at 02:34 PM by CB in the City

I got an answer from the furniture restoration company yesterday. I had previously called, and was instructed to send in some pictures and a description by email. The guy who called said he believed the table could be brought back to its former glory for about $1800-2000. Of course there will not be a hard estimate until he can see it in person, but he said he has done this a lot and he is usually right.

This was not a surprising estimate to me. And since getting a new table...

December Damage

January 7th, 2020 at 12:55 PM by TD

Haven't updated in a couple weeks because life has been so nuts around the holidays. Christmas was good, fairly low key aside from the tiny one having the flu. Thankfully he and his brother are both feeling better after a week or two of flu and cough medicine. And he was in good form by his birthday party on the 29th - which was good, as it was in a ninja warrior-esque trampoline park (that was my workout for the day, and boy was it a good one).

We went to Chicago with the...

Refinance Promotions at Credit Unions

January 7th, 2020 at 10:00 AM by Trying to Get Ahead

Right now, my credit union (Vystar) is offering 0% APR for credit card balance transfers for 12 months at https://www.vystarcu.org/About-Us/Newsroom/Current-Promotions/Credit-Card-Balance-Transfer. They are also offering a no closing cost mortgage loan. That's how we refinanced our home with a much lower rate.

Slowly Getting Better, Some Budget, Some Medical, Some Planning, Some Rambling

January 7th, 2020 at 09:56 AM by Lucky Robin

I am still exhausted, but DS and I had enough stamina to get dishes done today. We got 4 loads done. Everyone was sick for the past week, even DH, though no one as bad as me. I took it in fits and starts, though. It is the first productive thing I have done, besides make dinner, in a while. Tomorrow I will try to tackle laundry. There are at least 3 loads of towels to fold (DH did manage that much) and I need to put away the pile of clean clothes on my bed. I am done with...

more free things

January 7th, 2020 at 07:10 AM by mumof2

As you know we have many bushfires in Australia...well we live in the hills and thankfully have no fires near us...but with the weather we have had many limbs that have fallen and we need to get rid of them...it can expensive trying to get rid of big limbs...but after some research...we found out that we can get some takens from council and get rid of them for free...so that is great...the trees here are huge and we always have so many leaves and branches....it is frustrating but...

Laptop and Side Hustle

January 7th, 2020 at 04:07 AM by Amber

The best thing I could have done was purchase a laptop for my side gig.

Sometimes sitting at my desk can be daunting.

I was able to knock out three policies, attendance, over time, and holiday pay, all while in the bed. I sent the company the new W4 for 2020, made the recommendation that staff completes the form (it’s not required), and provided a copy of the new Florida minimum wage poster to be placed in the break room.

I also sent reminders regarding items I’d...

RIP Ally Cashback Credit Card

January 6th, 2020 at 09:57 PM by Life Balance

For a year or so I've carried an Ally cashback CC. It had a $100 bonus for spending $500 when I got it but best of all the cashback rewards could be deposited directly in my Ally online savings account (in amounts of $25 or more) with a 10% bonus on those rewards added. It was a good arrangement for me - the rewards were free, the bonus on the rewards was free, and then it earned interest once it hit my savings account. Win-win-win.

Well, nothing good last forever does it? Now...

IRA Contributions & Budget

January 6th, 2020 at 08:07 PM by terri77

I forgot to turn off my automatic contributions to my IRA, so I sent my first contribution for 2020 even though I still haven’t fully funded 2019. Whoops. Needless to say, I turned off the automatic funding. I will finish paying my mom back for the AC loan this month & should have the funds to max my 2019 IRA by April 15.

I have decided that 2020 will be the year I learn to live on budget. Honestly, I never tried before. Just spent as I pleased & my credit card debt reflects...

More Found Jewelry and Weekend Updates

January 6th, 2020 at 06:38 PM by My English Castle

Thanks for your input on the ring we've found. I've posted a notice on our local FB page, but no responses yet.

In a strange coincidence, last year my DH found a Tiffany bracelet in the cafeteria at work. At the time he posted it on their company intranet, but got no responses. It sat in their lost and found for a year, and now has been returned to him. When he brought it home, I looked inside to see it was engraved with three initials. Because he's a goofball, he had not...

Busy Day

January 6th, 2020 at 06:08 PM by CB in the City

It's been a busy day so far, and there is still more to do. I went to the gym, got gas ($17), went to the library to exchange books, and then came home and made chicken fried rice (from scratch, using up leftovers). I still need to do a load of laundry, clean the fish tank, and get the Christmas boxes into the closet. The latter is quite a chore. The closet is long and narrow and the Christmas boxes are big, and of course they go in the back because they won't be used again...

Our Annual Movie Date

January 6th, 2020 at 01:10 PM by Jazzy

DH and I each get a free birthday ticket to a movie theater that we love. It's one of those where you can order legit food and drinks. It can get super expensive, so we don't go often, but since our birthdays are only a few weeks apart, I wait to redeem mine, and we make it a movie date. Our costs are the food that we splurge on. It's become a fun little tradition. We saw the new Star Wars movie, and since it was the first time leaving DS in daycare, it was a good way to keep us...

Test

January 6th, 2020 at 06:52 AM by amastewa93

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their...
