Today Things Were Easier (For Me Anyway)

February 12th, 2020 at 03:59 AM by Lucky Robin

Things are going a lot better with my mom today. I am hoping that means the end of all the horrible, emotionally and physically exhausting days! She apologized for being so cranky and for taking me for granted. That was nice to hear, but honestly I am so used to it now I simply vent here and move on.

I took DD to physical therapy and then I went to take a three page approval thing my insurance needs to my rheumatologist's office to have them fill out and fax in, but no one...

to move or not?

February 11th, 2020 at 11:53 PM by mumof2

We still have 6 months left on this lease and then we were going to move closer to our old neighbourhood where all our docs are (about 1/2 hr from here) and where everything I use is pretty much walking distance..I love to walk.

After researching for a bit. yes we would save more in rent and gas but to get the packers in to move everything is so expensive, we can no longer do it ourselves so need them to do it, also with my hubby going to be in treatment for his cancer not something...

CB in the City

Tuesday Afternoon

February 11th, 2020 at 07:33 PM by CB in the City

Went to the gym this morning. I had forgotten, but it was bagel day, so I got a free breakfast. After I ate, I had a few minutes of panic, thinking I had lost my keys, but they were in my coat pocket. Duh. Had everybody looking for them and I feel pretty stupid.

I stopped at Walgreens on the way home and bought some valentine candy for the grandkids and two bottles of generic Tums on sale. I had a $5 reward on my account so the total bill was $12.

Tonight I'm taking...

Taxes Completed

February 11th, 2020 at 05:05 PM by terri77

My dad ran my numbers today at H&R Block & I owe a little less in federal taxes than last year. I owe the state $1 more than last year. I take 0 exemptions. I have already increased my withholding so hopefully I won't owe again next year. I think 2013 was the last year that I got a refund. I'm not sending my check off until the first week in April. I have until May to pay the state, but it's not much.

This is definitely good motivation to get my Facebook Marketplace & eBay sales going!

Amber

Annoyed

February 11th, 2020 at 11:24 AM by Amber

Financial literacy is an ongoing process for me.

I use to consider myself a saver and a spender, I’ve gotten to the point where I am now more of a saver. I’ve always hated giving the government my money; however, I do understand that there are resources in that those funds could, well should, be used for. But to be hit with $200 less in my check, I am not happy. This really burns me. I’m not trying to make this post political by any means; however, those new tax laws...

Rough Week Catch Up

February 11th, 2020 at 06:53 AM by Lucky Robin

It has been a rough week. Mom had her surgery last Tuesday and they sent her home Wednesday night. It was far too early for them to send her home. Not only was she incoherent, she was combative, and couldn't walk without starting to fall over. I about yanked my shoulder out of the socket catching her from falling.

Unfortunately they did not take me seriously at the hospital the night before when I told them how bad it would be if they sent her home early. If there is a...

Retirement Update

February 11th, 2020 at 05:07 AM by Lucky Robin

Well, the last two weeks were a bit of a whirlwind of downs followed by ups. While the IRA dipped down to around $9200, it has more than recovered. The 401K never dipped to the point of a loss, but it mostly held even due to contributions until this week when it went up again. All in all, we are up $1273.21 since January 14th, with $440 being contributions from us and $440 being contributions from work. So almost $400 up.

$18,463.14 401K

My Weekend

February 10th, 2020 at 06:21 PM by CB in the City

BFF left for home about an hour ago, and I'm unwinding. We had a great weekend together, though I had a mystery illness yesterday afternoon and evening that disappeared overnight, thank goodness. Don't know exactly what was wrong, but I had very bad acid reflux and a headache, as well as a cough. I was very tired from some sleepless nights, so I wonder if my body was just telling me, "Get some sleep, dummy!"

We saw four Oscar movies together and went out to eat a few times....

$20K Update

February 10th, 2020 at 05:50 PM by Banker Gurl

A little boost up so that feels good! We started on our taxes last night, since we had both of our rentals full all of 2019 and we didn't have nearly as much in repair/improvement expenses as in prior years, we may not get much of a refund. I know that is good because then we aren't giving the IRS an interest free loan all year....but it would be nice to get a big boost to savings right now! We are only about half way done with the taxes, hoping after we enter our medical expenses...

Maybe the Lesson is Learned By Now

February 10th, 2020 at 12:59 PM by Life Balance

This week I purchased dog food and entered it as part of our grocery expenses. It was a first – up until this point I’ve transferred money from DS3’s account to mine to cover the cost any time I purchased dog food.

About a year and a half ago DS3 had a GF and the two decided to get a puppy together. Well, it was not vetted with us and I was more than a little annoyed when the dog arrived. I love dogs (but not as much as cats!). And DH really loves dogs. I think DS3 knew...

Roth IRA

February 10th, 2020 at 04:07 AM by GratefulSaver

I have $100 to spare and it will be going to my Roth IRA contribution. As I mentioned before, if I can swing two $270 payments by April, I'll have a shortfall of $320 for a full contribution (2019). Once done, I'll begin my 2020 contributions. This is my #1 financial priority as I am behind on saving for retirement.

A Sports Rant

February 9th, 2020 at 08:29 PM by DK62565

I'm starting this with a disclaimer...I'm not a sports person. Don't beat me up over this, OK? I know people like different sports. I think in many cases sports can be a great thing. But it seems like it is being taken to an extreme.

OK, now that I've explained that, this is my rant. I know people like sports. I get that is interests them and it is entertainment. But I worry that sports has taken over.

I grouse often on the weekend because a sports program will run over and...

Busy, busy busy

February 9th, 2020 at 12:55 AM by Fern

Busy, busy, busy.

New computer
I decided to replace my "aging" Windows 7 Dell desktop since Microsoft no longer supports it, virus/security-wise. It was also getting incredibly SLOW, probably due to today's complex graphics.

I bought a new "all-in-one" Dell desktop (Windows 10) with a slightly bigger monitor of about 23" and NO tower, which I like a lot since too many wires makes it hard to vacuum. Everything is wireless.

I had considered a laptop, but I really like...
