March 2020 Interest Income

April 1st, 2020 at 03:15 PM by Creditcardfree

And interest rates begin to fall...

FNBO Direct is at 1% APR as of this writing.
NFCU is our certificate with a 3.20% APR until June 10, 2020.
We can add money to this one.

I will be looking for the right combination of certificates for this volatile time, currently seeing new ones at NFCU for 12 and 18 months for 1.65%. If I can add more money later, I may open one of these. May open one regardless if we can add. Just makes my decision easier! Will do more research soon....

Loan Deferrals ~ Be Careful

April 1st, 2020 at 02:06 PM by Monkey Mama

My instinct when seeing the loan deferrals was kind of *meh*. You know you are just prolonging the inevitable, adding interest to the loans, etc. I totally understand from a desperate standpoint. But I guess I am kind of skeptical if it really helps or just kicks the can down the road. Maybe that was my initial *meh* feeling. Does it help people (who need help) or does it just dig their holes deeper?

Well here's some salt to add to the wound. Sharing as an FYI to just...

Goals Check-in

April 1st, 2020 at 12:56 PM by Life Balance

The first quarter of 2020 has passed so it’s time to check the status for my annual goals and plan my adjustments and/or next steps for this quarter.

(1) Get EF back to 3 months’ basic expenses – on target

For us 3 months of basic expenses would be $10,500. Currently the EF has $5050, which is less than half the goal, but it started the year at $3500 so progress has been made. My focus for unallocated dollars right now is on the soon-to-expire 0% CC. Once that is...

No Better

April 1st, 2020 at 12:01 PM by CB in the City

DIL, as of last night, was feeling no better. I told her I wouldn't rest until she was feeling better and she messaged me, "REST!" with a heart. Maybe today.

I'm going to test Walgreens' drive-thru service for non-pharmacy items today. It's not clear how to do it, so I made a shopping list of seven items online and printed it out. I don't want to get out of the car. If this doesn't work, I'll go back to the drawing board. I plan to be there at nine when it opens.

Yesterday...

March This and That

April 1st, 2020 at 12:30 AM by Laura

Well, this is my second week working from home. Overall I'm really enjoying it. I think it'll be hard to go back to the normal routine.

I did go into the office for a few hours yesterday and saw my boss. It's pretty obvious she's an extrovert she was so happy to see me.

DH is still doing his pizza delivery. He says business has picked up some this week, and tips are bigger. When all the universities shut down, deliveries took a hit.

I asked him tonight if I could...

Appreciating Small Wins

March 31st, 2020 at 07:07 PM by Life Balance

A couple of pieces of small positive financial news: While the company has announced that annual profit sharing as it’s implemented now is being discontinued, we did get an annual payment this year. I used a portion of mine to purchase a new laptop. I have been limping along with this one far longer than most would I think – it’s soooo slow and it crashes if I try to view a video. And the already replaced battery is bad so it must be plugged in. I’ve just ordered a replacement...

My English Castle

First Grocery Delivery Yesterday

March 31st, 2020 at 06:45 PM by My English Castle

We'd been two+ weeks on just what we had at home, and I ordered a few basics and some extras yesterday. I think in the lost world, they would've totaled to about $50, but they were almost $100. Yet that's a small price to pay for safety for everyone. We tipped the delivery person $15.

School work is quiet, DD is done with her classes for today, and DH is working away in MY home office.

Mt DD's school trip to France in June has been cancelled, and I'd sure like that money...

greedy people

March 31st, 2020 at 02:38 PM by mumof2

I think this virus has made aussies stupid and greedy!

Our govt is doing what it can to help people out many people have lost their jobs and will go on support incomes..they don't have time limits over here but for the next 6 months they will get double which is $1100pf plus rent assistance to help them until they get employment etc...they have said that they can't be evicted if they can't pay rent, they can have 6 months of no rent if they can't afford to pay rent...but the...

Another Day

March 31st, 2020 at 12:27 PM by CB in the City

My DIL went to the ER yesterday but they could not detect water in her lungs, so they sent her home. She is pretty miserable. I think she will be okay, but I am anxious for these days to pass. DS is almost back to full health, so that is encouraging.

I did some laundry yesterday. Other than that, not much. I am reading, watching Broadchurch, playing computer games -- anything to distract me.

I had biscuits and blueberries for breakfast and there is French onion soup...

Payday and other things

March 31st, 2020 at 03:16 AM by GratefulSaver

The USA Naval Ship Hospital has arrived in New York. It is sad to have the need for it and at the same time, it makes me so proud to be so blessed to live in a country like ours.

It is difficult to talk about money when lots of people are struggling to pay their bills. Here it's what's happening financially in our household. As you know, our house in Florida was finally sold a week ago. Aside from the money we expected to receive at closing, we were refunded $400 today for something...

A month of groceries

March 30th, 2020 at 11:17 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

2 weeks ago I posted I needed to shop, well I didn't. Decided we would make do with what we had and try to last. So we went another two weeks scrounging frozen veggies and luckily the oranges and apples lasted.

Well this month I went to costco first time since Feb 28th for a HUGE shopping trip. I spent $500 on food. It should last about another month. During my Feb trip I spent around $500 and we made it. This time I think we are also okay. I got a package of toilet paper,...

I can't believe it is april tomorrow here..this year is flying by fast...looking into april we should be able to make some headway into getting our ice acct up again..it is pretty dismal right now with all the added expenses...but everything has been paid on time, we have plenty of food so all good.

This week is pay week, can't wait to get the bills paid and start stashing money away in our accounts!!

Hubby has his scan tomorrow then starts his roadiotherapy in the next couple...

FB Sales Week of 3/22/20

March 30th, 2020 at 09:07 PM by Banker Gurl

I had quite a few sales picked up this week. I am doing outside pickups only. Once someone lets me know they are on their way, I place their items outside and they then pickup and place the money in a designated place. I bring the money in with gloves and immediately wash my hands. I also do not touch the money again until the 5 days has passed just in case to make sure nothing is still living on the bills. We have not had any confirmed cases in my county yet, so hopefully...

Debt Update as of 3/27/20 - How's Life

March 30th, 2020 at 08:43 PM by Banker Gurl

Normally I am bummed on the low update weeks, but this time I don't even care! We have so many exciting updates coming up with our debt, and this is just one more step towards that. Next update will payoff the Store Loan! I will FINALLY be able to start a snowball!! Not only will we have the $100 per payday from the Store Loan payments ($200 per month), but we also cancelled our cable and switched to Hula which is saving us $100+ a month. We are going to use the $100 savings...

Life in a Hot Spot

March 30th, 2020 at 12:57 PM by CB in the City

Well, I guess we are officially a hot spot now, though I thought we were already. Every day the number of cases and deaths goes up. No relief in site. I just stay inside.

My only "outings" are to put garbage in the dumpster and going to the laundry room. I wash my hands well before and after each excursion, and I wear gloves.

With the President expanding voluntary quarantine to April 30, I am sure that our governor will expand our mandatory quarantine to that date, also....

Wrong Just Wrong

March 30th, 2020 at 11:54 AM by Amber

I can’t understand why we are not cutting non-essential contractors before we lay off staff.

I’m really upset with this. We’re paying a cleaning crew six figures to clean, that doesn’t even show up, or when the do, don’t clean. This was way before COVID-19. Cleaning crew owned by board member, conflict of interest no🤷🏾‍♀️ especially if their services is more costly and ineffective.

We’re paying someone to clean the buses that aren’t running, and...
