the financial considerations of private school

May 18th, 2020 at 09:41 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

Okay so I'm really considering private school. I'm torn because as I said before my DH is anti-religion so parochial schools he's been a hard no. He wouldn't even consider it. Now. Maybe.

But even then I'm not sure. Our kiddos are 2nd and 4th grade. What would the costs be? The closest secular traditional private school is $37,900 not including extra fees. So let's say $40,000/year per kid $80,000 for 2. Parochial school will cost us $28,430 for 2 kids.

I believe...

love diet day 5

May 18th, 2020 at 06:23 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

Okay it's definitely getting harder to do this meat and berries crap. It's boring. It's way easier because I'm at home doing nothing. Literally nothing. But harder because it's boring. Will the whole 30 be better? I don't know. But I know it will be easier. Obviously not going out, not seeing people, not going to people's houses means really controlling what I eat. I acknowledge this in someways is not real life. That we will eventually go back out to eat. We will eventually...

Rain, Rain and More Rain

May 17th, 2020 at 10:53 PM by CB in the City

It has rained steadily all day long. It's very dreary. But it was good weather for binge-watching! I finished all three seasons of The Handmaid's Tale, which is great because today is the last day of the free streaming. I thought it might be completely wrapped up at the end, but it looks like they left it open for another season.

In my hallway, I have a bunch of photos of my family attached to the wall by Command strips. Most of them stay up fine, but for some reason, DS2's...

Planning for Christmas Presents

May 17th, 2020 at 08:42 PM by DK62565

As Ceejay wrote, everyone's life has been touched by the pandemic and everyone's is a little different. Yes, indeed.

DH has put in a little bigger garden as far as tomatoes this year. He had 18 last year. He has 20 this year. We've been enjoying green onions and radishes so far and a little bit of lettuce. Our cool, damp, gloomy weather has not helped. I sure hope we get some sun this week.

I took stock of my canning pantry. I noticed I was about out of sweet relish. We...

Financial Updates

May 17th, 2020 at 02:32 PM by Monkey Mama

MM's #1 college choice (a very small private college) is offering significantly reduced price summer classes (online). MM(16) applied for a class I don't think he technically has all the prerequisites for, but I am sure he would be fine. Anyway, he was approved Friday and he is so excited. What an amazing opportunity to test drive the school. I sent a check out in the mail on Friday.

That has been our one splurge. April "extra unemployment money" (above and beyond normal...

Computer Resurrection

May 16th, 2020 at 06:06 PM by CB in the City

Well, my old computer is now behaving itself, after being powered off for a few days. The new one is in the midst of being shipped, and is supposed to arrive on Monday. I am probably going to keep the new one, unless I just hate it. This computer has been glitchy in the past and this most recent episode was plain weird and very distressing. I don't trust it. BUT, if it had only righted itself before I ordered a new one, I would probably would have soldiered on with it and saved...

Raise, Bought ETF, etc

May 16th, 2020 at 01:41 AM by Laura

So on Thursday I had my 6-month evaluation meeting. I got a high enough score for a raise. It should be about $.60/hr.

I'm glad I have the supervisor I have and don't have a particular co-worker for a supervisor.

It looks like we'll still be WFH till at least the beginning of June. I wouldn't mind longer ...

DH asked me to convert his index funds in his ROTH into an ETF a few months ago. So ... I looked at our accounts a few days ago and saw that my index funds...

the love diet day 2

May 15th, 2020 at 10:43 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

So yesterday I started the love diet with my neighbors. It's a detox diet of meat and berries for a week. Then you start adding things back in. It's based on the 20/20 lifestyle. Apparently a couple of neighbors love to do this reset and whole 30. I'm reading the whole 30 book so we'll see how it goes.

So the detox phase is 4 oz of protein and 1 cup berries for breakfast/lunch, 2 oz of protein and 1 cup berries for snack, and 6 oz protein and berries for dinner. I am doing...

trying to sell before the market drops

May 15th, 2020 at 09:21 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

So DH's stock vested today and annoyingly enough it didn't hit his account to sell. I'm dying. Literally dying. I need him to sell it because the market is so crazy right now that I can't take the uncertainty.

For us the stock is part of his compensation and we do not hold onto for "gain". We cash out and stick it before in taxable account for investments. We always save it. As I explain to friends, clients, anyone who asks, you don't hold stock for the same company...

ins money is in

May 15th, 2020 at 01:47 AM by mumof2

Got $490 in from our car ins, I gave hubby 400 and banked the rest..went back to using cash for our groceries and gas...its to hard to keep track of it from our account and we usually use self serve anyways so not a big deal...it should work better now.

I have put a complaint in with our health minister against the hospital in regards to my hubbys treatment, I don't want it to happen again so now just sent in some forms and will wait to hear back, know they are busy with all...

Sign-on Bonus

May 15th, 2020 at 01:05 AM by terri77

I received the job offer last Friday & filled out the HR paperwork that night. Today, less than a week later, I was handed my sign-on bonus. The manager told me it was probably just the paperwork with my info but no check since I had missed the pay period cut-off, but when I got in my car I opened the envelope & there was a check. So surprised & pleasantly so. I am banking the money until I complete the one year period.

A Tired Day

May 14th, 2020 at 11:21 PM by CB in the City

Really tired today. I cut back on the housework, just cleaning the kitchen counter, stovetop and the mixer.

I discovered that Xfinity is running a free Handmaid's Tale watchathon, so I've been binging on that. I learned that a friend has been diagnosed with probable Parkinson's, and I'm feeling sad about that.

I can hardly wait to get my computer, because doing this on the phone is murder!

TSP Increase

May 14th, 2020 at 12:01 PM by terri77

I had decreased my TSP contribution to just enough to get the full match while paying down credit card debt, but with the new job, the sign-on bonus, the stimulus payment, canceled vacations, & the gift from my parents I decided to increase it to meet my limit again this year. I may have to adjust it again closer to the end of the year to make sure I max it out.

I also will have finished paying back my TSP loan at the end of the month. I sent an extra $500 payment last week....

My English Castle

Secret Spending

May 14th, 2020 at 05:00 AM by My English Castle

Does that headline sound naughty? I think I could give y'all 100 guesses and you wouldn't come up with what I spent $7.99 on. What? You guessed Monopoly houses and hotels? Gees, you're smart!

My DD and I are fed up with my DH's cutthroat Monopoly playing. He plays so hard to win and tries to buy up all the houses, never changing to hotels just so we can't buy more houses. So I've bought a secret stash and will surreptitiously add one or two to the total number every few...

Still here, time flies!

May 13th, 2020 at 06:36 PM by Greenleaf

Long time no update! Have been chipping away at debt, working, and mostly socializing by phone/zoom as we are still under a lockdown where I live. Looking back at my last entry, I can’t believe how quickly time has flown since this whole crazy thing started.

After various delays due to staff being out at home, finally received reimbursement for $1500 of work-related expenses from earlier in the year (mostly airfare for business travel, all pre-Covid). I applied this to my...

Hanging in there

May 13th, 2020 at 01:57 PM by CB in the City

I am entertaining myself with Spring cleaning these days. I am on the kitchen now, and it's slow going. But I am seeing the difference and it feels good.

I missed the Blue Angels yesterday. I lost track of time and then I heard them. By the time I got outside it was too late. Oh well. It was an impressive noise, anyway.

May 13th, 2020 at 08:08 AM by Banker Gurl

I am so far behind! I still need to log a few weeks of FB sales and do my Debt Update but wanted to at least update savings before it got too far behind to update. Regular auto deposits really adding up! Hopefully I can do my FB Sales in the next few days, I should have at least a few hundred to add to the pot! Working on getting out spring and summer items for sale now.
