Smallsteps

no discussion

June 15th, 2020 at 03:12 PM by Smallsteps

So I have been winding down my payments to various items because I was looking forward to my Mid-July end date from this job.
As I was going through updates/ notices regarding employees .... what do I come across a notice that MY contract was extending into next year.... NO one asked me NO one even contacted me.
Hours later I get an email from temp place saying the place I am at wants me to stay through August .....and then depending on their budget hire me permanently....

My English Castle

A Few Things Purchased

June 15th, 2020 at 03:40 AM by My English Castle

I spent some cash at a friend's online Pampered Chef party. I don't know her all that well as she's really a friend of a friend,, but she's a single mom who has been furloughed from her job. And I like nice kitchen things so I googled "Best Pampered Chef" products and bought a few things.

We also spent about $100 yesterday on getting a new British passport for our daughter. And she's going "up north" with friends for a few days to a friend's cabin before she starts working...

extra money

June 15th, 2020 at 02:38 AM by mumof2

We have been waiting since april about a package that was sent to us but was broken when we got it and it had obviously been run over by something, we hadn't heard back and I was annoyed but thought with the carona virus and all the disruption to mail and with hubby going through treatment it just wasn't a priority...so over the last month I have tried emailing them and heard nothing so I wrote to the ombudsmen (postal one) and they called and asked for some detail which I sent...

Time to Start Rebuilding the Medical Fund for 2021

June 15th, 2020 at 01:50 AM by Lucky Robin

I just went through yesterday's mail (I quarantine mail for 24 hours) and received a refund check from one of my doctor's offices. Quite a hefty check, too, of $208.44. I will take that to the bank tomorrow and deposit it into the medical fund. At first, I was thinking about just putting it into the EF since it would have put me above $9000, but since it originally came out of the medical fund, it should go back in there.

It's pretty low and it is time to start rebuilding...

Sunday Evening

June 15th, 2020 at 01:15 AM by CB in the City

Well, I never got around to posting today till now (almost bedtime)! There isn't much to report. I got another $17 refund from my insurance company. I didn't spend anything. I got my Panera gift card in the mail yesterday, and today I was going to go stock up on bread and bagels, but since I slept very poorly last night -- only 4 hours, according to my Fitbit -- I decided not to drive. I've just been hanging around home, reading and watching TV, doing a few chores. I've seen...

Welcome Baby Gurl!!!

June 14th, 2020 at 10:56 PM by Banker Gurl

Yes you read that correctly! MO and I welcomed a beautiful and healthy baby girl a few weeks ago! Those of you that have been here for the last few years (I think that is most of us) know that we lost our twins in 2018 and it's been a very long and hard journey to get baby girl here (13 years, but whose counting...lol). We are so happy and blessed to have her!

We named her Hope. After losing the twins, and everything that is going on in the world now we felt it was perfect...

A question

June 14th, 2020 at 10:23 PM by GratefulSaver

Do you think that people who are employed have the ability to save money even in smaller amounts no matter how deep in debt they are? I'd like to read your take on this.

Pay Day Friday

June 13th, 2020 at 05:03 PM by terri77

I received 2 of my paychecks this Friday. I will receive the third on Monday. My credit card debit is down to $15k with yesterday’s payment. Monday I will send $500 to my Roth IRA. I have set up recurring transfers again on the 15th of every month.

I am contemplating taking a break from my second job in July. The third job is keeping me plenty busy with 20-25 hours weekly. Having a break on the weekends would be nice.

With the lack of gym time I’m looking to make some...

Refund and Adjustment

June 13th, 2020 at 02:14 PM by CB in the City

My refund from Amazon came almost immediately -- $8.04 -- woo hoo! It will be interesting to see if the toilet paper ends up being delivered anyway. Supposedly it was being shipped, but that had been the status for quite a while.

No spending yesterday. Today I will do some laundry, but will stay in otherwise. The weather is nice and cool, so I'll be sure to take a walk this morning.

I slept late this morning -- till 7:30! That's late for me; I'm usually up as soon as...

Refinance and Appraisal

June 13th, 2020 at 01:05 PM by klarose

Our appraisal came back! Last year our house appraised for $150k and we needed that much again to refinance and get out $5k extra to do the dirt work.

Unexpectedly our appraisal came back at $184k! I'm not sure why it went up so much. We did finish some random little projects but nothing major. I can't believe it. They offered to let us have more money out and we decided to go ahead and add $2k more to cover part of the cost of the water heater. That way I don't have to open...

Matching Contributions

June 13th, 2020 at 02:20 AM by Life Balance

About a month and a half ago the company announced a contribution matching initiative for donations to Covid-19 support organizations. The employee contribution can be to any qualifying organization that is helping prevent the spread of Covid-19 or addressing other damage caused by it. The match from the company though will go to one of about half a dozen organizations that the company has chosen. The employee can select which one. And it’s clear from the wording of the memo...

And 2020 keeps rolling

June 12th, 2020 at 08:02 PM by Jazzy

My son has been back at daycare for 3 weeks now, and so far, it's been okay. We've started talking about transitioning him to the Toddler room which of course sparked our own discussions about all of his other transitions. Given that we'd like to have the nursery ready and are keeping it mostly as is furniture-wise, he'll be switching to his big kid room and a toddler bed at the same time. And then there's the obvious adjustment of new baby. All of these will happen in a 2-3 month...

WE'RE 100% DEBT FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 12th, 2020 at 07:52 PM by Lucky Robin

The title is my debt free scream since I doubt I will ever make it on the Dave Ramsey show to do one. I made the last payment to Mom on the Monster Mom Loan and we no longer have even a bitty bit of debt to our names! I am excited. This feels like such a huge accomplishment after all these years. I feel like I can sit up with straighter shoulders, because nothing is pushing them down anymore. And I don't have the boulder that is my mother hanging over my head anymore, she...

Payday Report for 6/12/20

June 12th, 2020 at 07:38 PM by Lucky Robin

DH had some overtime on this paycheck so we had $361.93 extra in take home pay. Part of that went to keep the tithe at 10% and the rest to the medical fund since it is getting quite low. We have hit the out of pocket max now, though, so it is just a question of building it back up again. There was about $127 left in checking, just some carry over which will stay in there for next payday.

$354.86 Tithe
_500.00 Utilities
_400.00 Grocery Envelope
_300.00 Medical Fund

Toilet Paper No-Show

June 12th, 2020 at 12:21 PM by CB in the City

I finally asked for a refund for the toilet paper I ordered from an Amazon seller on April 1. April Fool! It never came. I keep getting messages that it is delayed and on its way, but it just never comes. Now that the toilet paper crisis has passed, I don't need it anymore. We'll see how the refund process goes. It's only $8, but it's $8!

Yesterday was really nice, and I took a walk in the morning. In the afternoon, I worked a little at cleaning the kitchen, and I will...

Saving, and Paying Off Debt

June 12th, 2020 at 10:53 AM by Amber

Sinking funds. I have so many, but they give me peace. When I bought my house I started a home repair fund, best decision ever and later a mortgage fund. The goal of the mortgage fund was to save three months payments, in addition to my EF. By the end of this month, I’ll have the three months mortgage saved.

I’m so excited about this! Just knowing that I have at least three months of mortgage saved, not including my EF, is amazing. Once I hit that goal, I can throw the...

June check in

June 12th, 2020 at 10:26 AM by Penny

I should post more frequently, but it seems I'm always either on my work laptop or phone. Neither are suitable for writing a blog entry!

June bills are covered and I reached my original summer fund goal. Now I need to write out next goal going forward.

We are still healthy, thank goodness. Actually probably healthier than ever because we are not picking up any illness from kids at schools or on airplanes as is often the case. Of course, I did manage to pick up 4 or 5 extra...

Van is Back and Planting Potatoes

June 12th, 2020 at 05:21 AM by Lucky Robin

The van work cost $987.33. Ouch. But the guy said there is nothing else wrong with it and that the tires were in excellent shape. They rotated them, changed the oil, changed the filters, replaced the brakes, flushed the lines, and washed the vehicle. I forgot it was supposed to be salsa red and not pollen yellow! This is the most expensive service we've had to date, which is not bad for a nine year old vehicle with less than 50,000 miles on it.

I think I am going to up...
