5 more days with no car should = 5 no spend days!

October 27th, 2020 at 03:18 AM by Gramma Ray

DD3 traded back the hubs truck (aka the beast) for her car Sunday afternoon.  So I am basically without a vehicle again until Saturday.  I am fine with this.  Today was a no spend day...as I am sure the rest of the week will be as well, since I have no way to go anywhere.
I enjoyed red beans and homemade bread today for lunch and dinner.  Switched up the flavors a bit by adding a bit of hot sauce and parmesian for the dinner beans.  I had a granola...

Good Living

It worked

October 26th, 2020 at 08:51 PM by Good Living

So we're doing okay here and I did write a post that got lost in the switch over. I don't remember exactly what I wrote about but my spouse and I have talked about a challenge of a month of trying to spend as little as we can just to see what we can do. We have mostly fixed expenses and some food. We'll see how it goes. If we do it, I'll report back.

Reaching Out

October 26th, 2020 at 03:29 PM by DK62565

Years ago AT&T had a slogan, "Reach out and touch somebody." Of course the company wanted you to call and keep them in business.
However, I think we need to stop and take this slogan to heart. As we still struggle with the Pandemic, there are an awfully lot of lonely people out there. For example, a lady at church asked about our looming group. She wanted to know if she had to come and make hats. I said no, come and visit with us. We sit over 6 feet apart and wear masks...

Yesterday's Post - Frugal meal plan

October 26th, 2020 at 02:47 PM by Gramma Ray

I've put on a pot of small red beans with a hamhock this morning for several meals this week.  Such an inexpensive, yet healthy dish for the week.  I should get 8-10 meals for about $4.  Since the bread only takes 3 cups of flour and scant amounts of yeast and salt, I guestimate less than .50 a loaf.  So, if I get 8 meals, thats .56 ish cents per meal!  Not bad for something I really enjoy.    I will polish off the last of my leftover prime rib...

Spending

October 26th, 2020 at 12:55 PM by CB in the City

I've done a lot of spending while the site has been on hiatus.  $1750 to correct electrical problems, $638 for car repairs, $39 for pet supplies, $108 for groceries, $35 for gifts, $10 for postage.  Not sure I got everything there, but the monthly recap will tell all.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33...

Late Start

Bittersweet Refund

October 24th, 2020 at 03:20 PM by Late Start

Pre-pandemic, I had booked a trip to Europe with travel to Iceland and England. It was supposed to be a celebratory trip to mark my starting to be fully self-employed. To celebrate that I can set my own hours and take vacation whenever I wanted for however long I wanted. No more applications for leave to be approved! I had really been looking forward to it. It was supposed to happen in August. My sister and her family were to have joined me for a portion of it.
Needless...

Tonight's Dinner

October 24th, 2020 at 01:15 AM by Gramma Ray

I continue to use up food I have here at home.  I wanted something other than soup/stew for dinner tonight, so I pulled a 1/2 chicken breast out of my 10-1b Costco frozen chicken breast pack and defrosted it today.   I spiced it up with seasonings and added some rosemary, thyme ( these were leftovers spices that I froze from the prime rib a few weeks ago- just learned I could freeze them!!), butter and lemon juice.  Its baking now.  (smells yummy) I am...

5th day without a car

October 23rd, 2020 at 11:19 PM by Gramma Ray

Last Sunday, I ran to Walmart to pick up just a few supplies to get me through the week and on my way home, my car died.  It would start, but then immediately shut down.  Of course, the hub is on rotation in Alaska...so I rummaged through my car paperwork and found the roadside assistance information, that I honestly had forgotten I even had.  (It was a free perk when I bought the car and never gave it a second thought, actually.)  I called the number, and YES,...

Brunette Getting Out of Debt

Thank you!

October 21st, 2020 at 04:32 PM by Brunette Getting Out of Debt

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I read all your comments, thoughts, and suggestions! They were very appreciated!
I actually wrote this last week and tried posting it several times, but with all the issues the site was having, it got lost somewhere in the interwebs.
After reading some of the comments I was a little concerned that I painted too dire a picture of our financial situation.

Although I HATE our debt, I want to be clear that we are not struggling...
