These Home Improvement Projects Are Worth Saving Up For

February 5, 2024 by Sam Hayes

When it comes to home improvement options, most homeowners want something that will not cost a lot of money but will increase the overall value of their homes. Striking the balance between project value and upfront costs can be tricky. If you want to tackle a few financially savvy projects that will improve your home, keep reading.

Build a Porch

If you really want a nice home improvement project, save up your money and have a porch built on the front of your home. Porches increase the square footage of your home, and they give you additional seating areas where you can enjoy the weather. According to The Plan Collection, adding a porch to an existing house will boost the overall value by eight to 12%.

You can take your porch a step further and have it enclosed, add rails for safety protection, and even screen a portion in to keep kids and pets contained. The great thing about a porch is that you can make it as large or as small as you want it to be. You can also choose to have it made from wood or brick from the foundation up.

Upgrade to a Metal Roof

Existing homes will need to have their roofs upgraded soon. If this is a project you are expecting, then save money and maintenance by adding a metal roof. Metal roofs have been determined to last approximately 30 years with minimal maintenance compared to traditional shingle roofs.

With a metal roof, you can choose to have this done in a number of colors. They can be neutral or bright colors, and you can choose them to match your home. The colored tin doesn’t cost extra money, so you are able to have a unique home to match your preferences.

Make Your Roof Cool

Even if you are planning to move to the metal roofs, take it a step further, if you have the money and make it a cool roof. According to Home365, cool roofs have the potential to reduce the cooling energy by 10 to 15% because of stronger insulation from the heat. This investment will make your home more comfortable and improve your overall energy bill for years.

Upgrade to Tile

Areas like your kitchen and your bathrooms have direct exposure to water. If the flooring in these areas is not already tiled, you should save the money to upgrade these floors. Tiles will help reduce any water damage and foundation issues. Tiles are water-resistant and will not break down from unexpected water spills that your children or family members might cause in these areas.

Tiles are also versatile, so you can purchase them in different designs and shapes to match the theme and look that you want for these spaces. This is a great addition when you are looking at an overall remodel. Other flooring options are good, but tiles are the most preferred, especially in these areas.

Build That Patio

If you have a small space in your backyard that is private, take the time to invest and save your money for a patio area. This space should have furniture, plants, and an outdoor rug if you want to keep the dirt and sand out of the area. You can also add an outdoor kitchenette to make it easy to dine outside on nights when the weather is nice.

Patios are easy to design, and they can be as big or small as you like. You also have the flexibility to add in plants and make this space your own oasis. Having this private area is worth the money and the quality of life you get out of it.

Take Advantage of Home Improvement Projects

Whether you plan to tackle, one, a few, or all of these projects, they are all great investments to make in your home. Saving money and having these upgraded areas will not only improve the value of your home, but your quality of life living in the space and getting to enjoy all of it.
